it is never completley closed but just like the flapper valve in the 1000rr it opens as you give it throttle.
since the HTEV was only there for sound at idle (just like the 1000RR)

but first you need to do a little more research, the valve in the 600 is not in the exhaust manifold it is just before the cat.

but i have posted more than enough evidence that proves that the whole backpressure thing is BS. you have already made up your uninformed mind on it so further evidence would be pointless. god you are worse than a republican or a bible thumper. smack you with hard evidence and you still live in fantasy land. you may be a big wig over at 600RR.net but as far as i am concerned here you are just a douche that needs to stick with diagnosing charging systems.

and i am pretty sure that is not the first time you have been told that.

so since i dont have a scanner and am not going to go buy one just to crush your ego you can either take my word that has been proven on this site time and time again along with every 1000rr owner that has been dealing with the HTEV for 4 years now. go there and do some research.

so now its your turn
lets hear it,

Watch out mang...he cuts a hole in the bottom of the bucket and places it in his lap for unsuspecting people to grab a handful.

As far as I know on the 1000RR it's just there for noise issues. Just putting around it's partially open then full out acceleration it opens all the way. I still have the stock can on my '07 1000 and will leave the valve alone until I upgrade to an aftermarket system. Not worth messing with really.

I've been doing some reading on fireblades.org about the HTEV (Honda Titanium Exhaust Valve) and it seems the consensus is that it (the removal or disabling of said device) really provides no direct benefit, only to move the power band up further.

baxsom, that is the first time i've been told that. please don't paint me something i'm not. i'm here to learn as well as i am no Honda Engine R&D employee. so please take the anger out of your replies. i called it with the manifold part in there because i consider, as the word manifold suggests. anything upstream of the catalytic converter as part of the manifold system, so please excuse the lack of correct terminology in this new-to-me tech. I was unaware the anagram was HTEV.

i am however curious as to why honda decided to finally use an HTEV on the 600RR platform after 4 years of... well... not doing so, but using it for years and years on bikes the likes of the 1000RR, The RC51, and the 929... why would they install one just to lower it's lower RPM performance?

I wanted to see your Dyno sheet to look at the overall power curve before and after your run to see what effect it had... that's why i asked. not because i thought you were lying. if i thought you were lying, i would have said so directly. please, in the future, i ask that you take my comments at face value. when i am forceful, you'll know it.

id love to post a dyno sheet, but like i said i dont own a scanner but the torque and hp curve were within 2hp of each other. as anyone knows 2hp and 1ftlb on a dyno is not enough of a difference to count.

why they finally decided to do it who knows
but for 4 years now the 1000 has had this valve and there are hundreds of people on the 1000rr page that have experienced no difference with the valve open or closed other than sound at idle.

i didnt do my 1000rr before and after the valve but i did do it with the 600
the only other explanation is that it is for sound for the 1000rr and performance for the 600

2hp and a pound at the top?

there has to be a benefit somewhere. honda doesn't put this stuff on their machines for nothing... what could it be?
