Default Rear wheel bearings

Out riding with some buddies today, I got some wobble when I got to around 140 and I backed off, It seemed strange though since I just replaced the front wheel and steering head bearings, But after checking it looks like the rear wheel bearings are shot as well. I have a 180-55 tire on , Does that fit on the stock rim? Or do I need to look for bearings a different wheel?

It does sound like rear wheel bearings. The 180 tyre is ok for the Mark 2 (89)and beyond but NOT for the Mark 1 (87/88).

Look for Naga_Thais' excellent 'How To' on rear wheel bearings.

Here it is - found it for you >>> https://cbrforum.com/forum/how-tos-8...r1000f-141525/ <<<

Cheers, SB

Know what - you may want to check your rear shock !

I had this happen on my `1990 at speed (90 +) on a trip - the rear wheel went into
what could be best described as severe oscillation - rear shock was screwed
and I was lucky not to get thrown at the time. I ended up stiffening up the sag
setting to the max stayed under 75 until I replaced the shock

Well I took a good look at the rear wheel wheel and just by looking at how bad the seals are are spinning the wheel on the axle I can see and feel that the bearing are bad, at one point in the rotation you can hear a bit of a metally crunchy grindy noise coming from the bearing. I sure hope the rear shock isn't bad the bike only has 15k on it, whats a good way to check though?

I think you are good - crunchy metal sounds bearings it is by the sounds of it.

Shocks when bad will give you that "rocking horse" action no dampening action to speak of.

Yeah lol

If you do check it next time you have the wheel off
look at the shock piston rod - if it's corroded at all
chances are the damper is junk as the seals would be
ripped up.

Okay so replacing the bearings today, they arnt nearly as bad as the front ones but still on there way out. I read Naga's writeup on the replacement and I don't understand how you get the Drive side bearing out in the first place, the axle guide is in the way. Could someone please give me a little more detail on this?

Ok nevermind played with the axle guide some more and got it to come loose. New bearings all around now. Also tried the freezer thing, it was really helpful.....in making the bearings cold lol
