Hey I've heard of a few Carbon Fiber negatives such as discoloration over time, the epoxy bubbling over a longer ride, and the resin rubbing off. Any of these confirmed or just myths and stories? Reason i'm asking is because i'm considering CF as a choice for my new exhaust. Thanks!

 

it all depends on the resin, and what sort of extremes its exposed to. Sunlight will usually mess with the finish on carbon fiber. Extreme heat may break down and f' up the resin, if the resin was not made to withstand those temperatures.

 

It's all about the quality control of the manufacturer.

That and the fact that there are about a bajillion types of carbon fiber / epoxy resin matricies.

I have a Scorpion CF that sees a HELL OF A LOT of heat when riding, but is garage kept. It looks new. I have had it for about two years, and it was used prior to that.

I have heard one instance of a Akrapovic pipe deteriorating, but it sounds like that one was a lemon. Akra is one of the highest quality pipes you can get.

The biggest thing I like about CF is it is so much cooler than metal. I just wipe mine down with Quick Detailer when I do the rest of the bike, and don't worry about it.

If you are really worried about it, go with Titanium. Ti requires almost no maintenance.
