8k is low for a 600(2nd gear)... if thats what you are riding. just be sure to cover the rear brake. the only way i can clutch it up in 2nd without preloading suspension is if i take it all the way to the limiter and drop it.

Are you standing or sitting when you are trying to wheelie. If you are standing how do you stand? I satnd Staggered with my left foot on the rear peg.
Stoppies are not my thing so I cant really help you out there. I think if you are getting into it though definitely look into getting some heavier duty break lines.

Try popping the clutch in first, not second. But REMEMBER you'll come up easier in first. Do that til your comfortable getting in the air. I havent EVER popped it up in 2nd. I just no-clutch shift into second while up. COVER THE REAR BRAKE AT ALL TIMES!! If you think you're going past 12 o'clock, tap it and down you'll come. Please wear gear. Good luck.
