Well, the guy did the bridge, water pump cover and stator cover for $100 altogether. I didn't know there was "hi-temp" powdercoating, but the guy does a lot of motor parts like valve covers with the powder he used so it might be.

Considering how these came out, I'm probably gonna send my swing arm to him as well to do in the same "soft crinkle/satin" finish as my top triple.

jasonchristopher 12-12-2012 07:44 AM

it probably cost the guy a third of that just running his oven!!
plus materails.. ya that was a bargain..
and +1 on everything.. its really going to look awesome...

^ pretty much true actually, at work i go to this one powdercoater place every day and have befriended with the owner over the years. Just out of interest I asked him how much would he take from me to PC similiar parts and he said if I choose a common color and wait till he coats something else with it it would be something like 30euros and that would be a "friend price" with zero for work, special color or done asap, bout 60eur.

Promised me rim job for 80eur including blasting. Tempting...

the nice thing about powder-coat is all you have to do is wax everything up, every so often and cleaning those parts is as simple as using a low preasure garden hose..
I think its time for me to build my own oven..

Looking at this makes me wish I was more mechanically minded oh and that I had money to spend on it too!

Conrice 12-12-2012 05:20 PM

that is a good deal. i got my rims done for about $130....

raylee 12-12-2012 07:26 PM

Well, there were cheaper options out there and closer places, but the place I brought these to also do a excellent machining and were recommended with high accolades from one of the techs in the shop so I gave 'em a shot. The wheels were $100 a piece.

What started as a simple project to make my Rc51 more comfy has a daily has turned into a real project. As the pay checks come in and as I try to budget in track days for next season I'm gonna get into this bike and truly make it my own. I'm not as skilled as the guy who made the boxer or guys like Roman from FOH cycles, but I'm proud of this bike so far.
