I don't really like the look of the square bulky radiator or the upper portion of the frame on the F1 so I have been toying with the idea of making a small fairing to cover up that section. Today I finally got around to mocking something up and I would really love some feedback. Here are some pics:

Pretty tough looking sidecover you've made there

Cut the hole for the tail light and tweaked the front fairing shape a bit more.

I like the gills on the side cover, however, in my opinion it would look a bit better if the inner/ rear one would go further under the front one. I don`t like the tail light. Again, in my opinion, it doesn`t fit the overall look of the bike. Then again, I`ve tried to look for a suitable tail light for my project for two years... Maybe I`m a bit picky...

I actually already made the change you are suggesting about the gills when I fabricated the other side today. I tweaked the shape of a lot of the curves to line up with the geometry of the tank a bit more. I can sense what you are feeling about the tail light too. I really liked it initially and still do but with these front covers having a lot of dynamic curves the back part of the tail is starting to look out of place being so simple and squared off real flat. I'm like 95% done with the shaping of the tail right now and at a dilemma. It would look great if it had a gill about 3/4 of the way back and tapered in more after that gill to look like this picture.

With that small round convex tail light and LED turn signals in the gills the tail would come alive. The problem is I'm really proud of this tail section and I don't know if I can bring myself to cut into to make those adjustments. I think I might beg my friends to make a mold of it so I can cast it and tear into the casting.

The tail section looks good to me. If you changed anything I would do an indent at the same angle as the tank slimming it part way down. Sort of creating that same shape again in the tail. Shouldnt affect the cafe look really either. but would require some reshaping.

I posted this earlier:
"The headlight is off a 1977 Honda CB 750. I just pulled it off a parts bike and cleaned it up. You can find a new 7 inch headlight pretty easy on Ebay or a motorcycle parts website. I put this one on just so I could get a sense of how it would look. I will probably replace it at some point because the chrome ring has some pitting. This one looks like it is pretty high quality:"

My headlight is only a 7" light. If you want a really big round light check out the 80s Yamaha headlights. My friend has one and it looks like a 10" round.
edit- fixed the broken link

Yeah our friend's headlight that he is talking about is the stock light from a 1983 yamaha 650 seca. It's somewhere between 8 and 10 inches and looks so great. I don't know the exact size just that it looks a lot larger than out 7 inch lights.
