There is no correct way to pull a bike.
When I was 16 my bike died and a friend tried to tow me home. With a rope on the center of the bars it was real hairy. The only way we could do it was for me to grab the rope with my left hand and hold it over center. That gave enough sideways play to stop the jerking from side to side(really bad on a bike). The H1 widow maker being peaky, damn near pulled my arm out of the socket.
In the above photo, no helmet in the rain on a very short strap with a non-forgiving bumper on a truck as a target....no thanks. You could loose your teeth and most of your face playing that game.
