February BLAH's (Dial-up Warning - lots of pics)
OK, so I don't know about everyone else, but I'm ready for some WARM WEATHER RIDING!!! I am sick of either not being able to ride, or having to put on way too many extra clothes to try and stay warm. Not to mention worrying about cold tires on freezing asphalt.
In other words, I'm ready for spring to be sprung!
So to calm my jitters, I was looking back at some of my pics from previous rides... I came across these from a cross country trip we took (not on the CBR, but hey, it was still on a bike).
Anyways, I thought maybe some other folks in cold weather areas could get a little enjoyment from the pics as well. If not, then just move along, nothing else interesting here.
This is from a trip that started in St. Louis to Deals Gap, onto the Blue Ridge Parkway, to Virginia Beach, through West Virginia, into Ohio and Indiana, then back to St. Louis. I think all in all we were in 11 states (some for a very short period of time): Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennesse, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana. By the way -- these pictures are not in order.
Early morning sunrise near Deals Gap:
The Blue Ridge Parkway carving through the mountain sides
Supposedly the highest elevation on the BRP (strangely, we still went further up before cresting)
The overlook at DG (look at that warm, beautiful sky! sigh....)
Some of the twisty's at DG (can you tell I love Deals Gap?)
This is just on the other side of DG, hwy 28, before you get to Fontana Lake
A closer shot
Somewhere between DG and the BRP (we thought the way the vines were covering the trees was kinda cool)
A closer shot of that tree (my wife is a tree nut)
We came across this foot bridge and just had to stop and take pics (the wife was scared, ha ha)
Some more scenery on the way to the BRP
Heading into one of the little tunnels on the BRP
The BRP is not like DG at all... it's supposed to be a slow, scenic drive around 30-35 mph. We heard about a sportbike rider getting killed earlier in the day because he was racing and came around a corner to find an RV stopped in the middle of the road and slammed into the back of it. Very sad and sobering news to hear when you are on a motorcycle trip
In one of the tunnels... we took several pics in the tunnels, but it was hard to get one to turn out. Also, be forewarned that the tunnels can be very slippery if it's been raining.... don't ask me how I know
We spent a few nights in VA Beach... this was the time-share where we stayed. I never did find any good roads in this area though - we just mainly did the sight seeing stuff, then headed on our way again.

RE: February BLAH's (Dial-up Warning - lots of pics)
Actually, we did enjoy our stay... other than the fact, like I mentioned above, I could not find any good riding roads. Granted, I was only there a couple of days, but generally, I don't have trouble finding good roads if I look hard enough.
DG (Tail of the Dragon) is hwy 129 on the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park - on the border between TN and NC.
Tons of good riding roads. We went back later and spent days riding around in the area.
