Default 04 CBR600 RR project

Hello,

I'm new to this forum, but I've gotten a year of riding under my belt. Anyhow, I currently have a 1994 cbr600 f2 that I have learned on in the past year. This winter I've been looking to trade up to another cbr. I was planning on upgrading to a 2000 CBR600f4 sometime next week, but then I found a deal on an 04 cbr600 rr. Last month, I helped (mostly I worked on it) my friend to rebuild his wrecked 2000 yamaha r6 that he got for 1500 bucks. It only took us a week to do all the body work and simple repairs to get it back on the road. After working on his project bike that was totally fun (and I got paid in Wendies food for the whole week), I wanted another bike as my project bike.

So, I found this 2004 Honda CBR600 RR for $2000 this weekend.

The Good: Bike has less then 3500 miles on engine and runs beautifully. Frame untouched, subframe straight, forks straight, brakes good, and engine cases and block are all good.

The Bad: Front stay bar is broke in two, needs new front upper cowl piece(s), new headlights, new left handle bar, new left foot bracket, needs new rear tire and various small things that I've yet have to account for (pretty much cosmetic ****).

The plan right now is to get it back to ridable stage (streetfighter style), but I'll end up spending a bit to get it pretty again. I just went on ebay and bought all the necessary parts last night so hopefully by next week, It'll be nice and pretty. Also, I'm still planning on buying the 2000 cbr600 f4 as a track bike/daily commuiter. I just love honda cbr's. My friends tell me that I should pick up an F and F3 to complete the honda cbr600 set. I'll update this thread with the project cost and some project pics. And oh, this is my dream bike and it has been everything that I could imagine (minus the whole damaged thing)

I'm already riding it. I ghetto fixed the handle bar with zip ties. Parts should come by the end of the week so it should be mechanically fixed by next week. My friend has a paint booth so within a month, it should look good as new.

that's what i hate about crotch-rockets... anytime it's in a wreck, it's always one of the handle bars.. lucky it wasnt the right side for you (i wasnt so lucky..) i been dissamebling my bike the past couple of days, been alot of spiders getting in my way of taking it apart haha (never really gotten around to it, so it sat there just building homes of the other species).. but keep us updated with the bike, i want a 04 600RR myself.. but i think i'm going to go for a complete one. my parents would flip if i bought a lemon haha..

good luck with it man

Project update

My bikes. As you can notice, no more huge globs of glue on the headlights as everything up front is replaced. I got a new front farings as well, but in the works of sanding it down and repaint. I forgot to pick up some plastic weld so I couldn't do much cept fiberglass some stuff. I think it looks evil without the farings IMO.

K&N filter

So after searching on ebay for the night, I picked up a set of replacement radiator hoses for 25 bucks shipped and planning on buying a power commander 3 and maybe a steering damper. Thursday I'm going to the shop and buying another M-3 metzler tire (front this time) to match the rear and buying another dunlop 208 for the f2 as I found a damn nail in the tire (only 1500 miles on the tire too). So I just practiced my rolling burn outs and locking the rear tire and sliding 90 degrees.

Anyhow, 600RR project is going good. Only spent about an hour working on her tonight. Got the handle bar today and replaced it. Then added the plastics back on, repainted the new front faring plastic with primer black temparily.

I have to wait till the morning to put the front faring and headlight back on as the primer is still wet.

Sounds like you got a really good deal with that fo $2k, thats my kind of project to. Had mine apart to many times for `extra` servicing to keep me entertained during the dark cold nights of winter
