It doesn't have to really have the kickstand, just the switch so it thinks it's down. Same with a key, just power up the ignition without starting it.

Yes, getting the codes out of the computer is the clue. Otherwise keep changing parts in hopes that you accidentally fix it.

How many miles it is to the nearest guy that can pull codes doesn't change the fact that the codes need to be read to see what is turning the light on. Blindly replacing parts gets expensive and time...
