Wheelie ?'s

I have a 2002 cbr f4i and have a few questions about wheelieing.
First, how bad is it when you come down hard on the bike?
Second, Dose fanning the clutch to get it up cause any damage to either the clutch or anything else?
Thanks..

Im not sure what you mean by fanning the clutch. Im assuming you mean your slipping the clutch a little, getting the rpms up and then dumping the clutch. if this is what our talking about, then yes, it can cause premature wear. Mainly, your clutch will wear out much faster. But also, you are putting a lot of force on what ever gear your in. Chipped or cracked teeth of the transmissions gears are not uncommon for stunted bikes. Basically, anything and everything connected to the drivetrain is affected. Some things can handle the added force, others cannot. But you will be replacing things much sooner by dumping the clutch, and run the risk of damaging things. how long things hold up is another story. I've seen guys ride the way your reffering too for 30,000 miles without any problems. I've also seen people destroy transmission in as little as 1,000 miles.

As for coming down hard on the front. Anything the front end is connected too is affected. But mainly, your head bearings will be taking a beating. Also, your fork seals will be at risk for failure. But again, it all depends on how often and how hard you landing.

I know its not suggested to offer other websites. But I think you might find better information at stuntlife.com.

i could get my f3 rise off the ground about a good 2 feet jus by staying in 1st gear rolling about 5-10mph and then gasing it hard.. and if i stand up and lean back itll go up a bit more..but i dnt want to beat up my bike yet tooo..

Wheelies are just something you pick up by practice and justaquid is right, some people can destroy a bike in just a few miles and others last forever. Thats because once you learn how to do it its just a part of your nature and you really don't force the bike at all. I can clutch up my bikes from a dead stop and its as easy as just a take off, I don't even go past 4000 rpm to have to lift it. Its all body motion. Johnnyh

Johnnyh is right man ........ And the smoother you are with your launches and setting the wheelies down the less wear it is to your bike ........ If you want to do wheelies just practice on how smoothe you are at the three main parts of a wheelie: clutching it up (fanning or feathering the clutch is kind of a four-wheeler or dirt bike term), riding it out (try to practice getting to your balance point faster and at a slower speed while being less jerky with the throttle), and setting it down (when it starts to come back down be sure to leave your self a "reserve" of rpms so that when you're on the way down you can give it a big dose of throttle to slow your front wheels decent) ........ Changing gears in a wheelie is somethin you only wanna go to when you honestly master these three things ........ Hope that helps to put you at ease that you can do wheelies without destroying your bike ........ :)

In the F4i section there was just a thread about this maybe 2 weeks ago. Someone posted a link to a stunt life forum where someone wrote up detailed instructions on how to learn wheelies.
