Try and stand her up as much as possible before hitting it, lean harder to avoid it, maintenance throttle thru it. Really depends on how soon you see it.

If your looking ahead in the turn you should be able to see it soon enough to choose another line. If its too late, try to decrease your lean before hitting it to reduce chances that youll lose the rear. If you have to ride thru it, throttle control will decide if you stay up or go down.

Here's a water puddle story, which is similar to gravel/sand. However, I think that gravel/sand is much more scary than water on the street.

Was on the track one day, running a pretty good pace, Ty Howard was video taping behind me for class I'm in (he was AMA Moto-ST champion 2 years in a row, holds all the Texas track records, also teaches for Skip Barber. No trouble following anybody around). I'm in a full knee dragging lean, when I see that a puddle has appeared from ground seepage right in my line. I was running Power Race tires, which have almost no tread on the edges. In other words, they are horrible in water when in a fast corner.

Ty says to me later, "I'm either going to get a great video or it won't be any big deal." I asked him later what should be done, and luckily I did it.

An ever so slight decrease in throttle would stand the back up just a touch to get a bit more contact patch, and then hold that throttle, and maybe add a quick prayer. Throttle control is the most important thing. Chopping throttle or hitting the brakes would have made for great video.

If you stand it up too straight, you'll never make the corner. If you can change your line to avoid it, not a bad idea, unless you are already committed to the line.

Don't give it up and fall - one of the sayings we have at the track is never stop riding the motorcycle. You'd be surprised what these bikes can do.

I plan to use my right clip on as a knocker on the Pearly Gates Ok, seriously tho. If the bike goes down, I'll try to get away from it as quick as possible. But intentionally ditch Ororo?

Nah, I gotta trust she'll get me though in one piece... Even if she doesn't

I tend to "change my line" by feathering the rear brake and adjusting my lean with the handlebars. Is this a bad habit?

So it'll be better just to stand the bike up a bit and ride through it?

Dunno Sprock. Hit sand / gravel at your tires max traction and a crash is a certainty. Running wide has a lot of 'might's and 'maybe's in it. "

There 'might' be a car there"
"'Maybe' I'll run off the road"

Won't slight application of the rear break tighten the turn?
