Default squeaky boots

Not sure if this is the right section of the forum, so Mods please feel free to move it if needed.

I have an older pair of Alpinestars S-MX 5 boots, which I really like, but they squeak and creek like crazy when I walk, and even if I'm standing still and just shift my weight. They even squeak when riding the elevator and it stops on a floor. Sometimes it makes an interesting conversation piece, and all of my co-workers can tell when I'm walking to my office, but it would be nice to be able to sneak up on people every once in a while...

Before I start trying things that might be harmful to the boots, and/or make matters worse, I figured I'd ask around and see what brilliant suggestions you guys and gals might have to offer.

Should I just douse them in leather conditioner and call it a day?

I've got a pair of SMX's and they squeel like a banchee. I've just gotten used to it. I think I'd be hesitant about putting any type of liquid on them. Might be prone to attracting dirt. Maybe baby powder or Anti-MonkeyButt powder.

Anti-monkeybutt powder, Hmmm... I'll have to check and see if we have any of that left. LOL

You can try Lexol or a similar leather conditioner. I paint it on, leave a standing coat,
(overnight the first time) and then buff them dry, after that. Then, I use Nikwax to water-proof them.

Same thing for my leathers, only there I use Lexol on the rough side to really get it to penetrate
and condition them. Nikwax on the outside, of course.

If you do this regularly they will stay soft, flexible and not crack. I've been dry in heavy, down-pours doing this.

Hmm, yeah, I was considering Lexol. That's what I use on our leather car seats. I was concerned about it attracting dirt, like IDoDirt mentioned.

Mark this as the only time I'll probably ever disagree with IDoDirt's opinion on something.

As I mentioned, brush a standing layer on the leather, leave it overnight,
and then buff them dry of any Lexol that didn't get absorbed. You'll be left with a shiny finish.
I've, not ever, noted a tendency to attract dirt or grime from my leathers by doing this.
To properly care for your leather products, you'll need to do something similar to this, sooner or later.

Try it on an old pair of boots, if you're really concerned. But, do your seats seem to attract dirt?

I understand the concern about attracting Dirt. I've heard once he shows up,
he's hard to get rid of and will eat/drink all of your good beer and food.
Leaving just the Pabst and cheeze wiz all alone in an empty fridge.
Definitely, something to be avoided.

So... this is what it comes to... I'm MIA for a few weeks and right under the bus I go... LOL

You gotta watch these new kids at every turn. BTW, I don't leave the cheese wiz either.

Welcome back! I've missed your ready wit and keen insight.

Hmm, don't even leave the Chez-wiz? And here I was going to invite you to over-night,
on your way to the next year's Texas MotoGP . Dare I, knowing that!? lol

I finally had a couple of days of no planned riding and was able to do the Lexol treatment to the boots. It made a huge difference! They aren't completely silent, but they are so much quieter now. :-)

Thanks for the advise everyone!
