My question is how strict are the snell and dot requirements? Majority of the name brand helmets ie. shoei, suomy, hjc, scorpion.....and so on, all have both snell and dot approvals. Putting aside personal perfrence for comfort and fit(which i will say shoei feels awesome), are they all close to the same playing field for safety?

They are all safe (the ones listed with DOT and Snell) but they have to fit right and be worn properly. For me it's Shoei for the best fit, all heads are different and your mileage may vary.

The safest helmet out there will vary from person to person based on:
1) Its fit for the person wearing the helmet, and
2) The strictest standard of safety certification.

A lot of people don't know there are certs outside of just DOT and SNELL. People will bicker over which is more strict. From what I've read and researched, I feel that a combination of DOT and ECE is the most strict. I doubt there is just one specific brand of helmet that is the safest for the general public.

i told them full face...

You are right about that. But there is no brand safer than all the rest. A $50 M2R will keep your brain from seeing the light of day about like a $700 Arai...but you may not be as comfortable or look as good doing it (although I have heard M2R can be quite comfy).

I have only had HJC and icon, and the HJC sucked horribly. I like the icon, but If I could afford a better helmet, I would like to get an Arai, or Shoei...but its an opinion, most helmets are both DOT and Snell approved. people have different shaped heads too, so one helmet might fight one guy perfect and might be horrible for the next
