Hey guys, my birthday is coming up so I'm looking to get myself a jacket. I already have 2 mesh so maybe looking a leather. Reason I shy away from leather because 1st. Is so $$$ expensive. 2nd it's too hot...

So I was looking around at some used ones or anything in the $150-$199 price range. Never would I thought about the Icon Overlord leather jacket which retails at $350-$450. Now I know the 2012 style just came out so the 2011 should be more competitive...I found one in my size and the color is black/grey(silver)...brand new asking $230 shipped.

Now this is $75-100 over my price range but it does look like a great deal. I've view utube review of this jacket and it seem to be a great leather jacket but well ventilated...cool riding. I don't want to be sweating like crazy...

Any comment and suggestions appreciated.

Looks like a great jacket. Regarding leather vs textile: I have a leather Alpinestars Black Lable jacket that I picked up on Craigslist for $60 and it feels so much more substantial than any of the textile jackets I looked at. My son has a pretty nice Tour Master textile jacket, but I feel so much more secure in the leather that even if it is hotter in the summer time I will likely wear leather vs textile.

What do folks think of textile vs leather pants for street gear? My gut tells me that leather is the way to go, but I'm having a hard time finding something that won't break the bank... Everything that I see that has armor is uber expensive. I'm looking for something to wear over jeans or slacks, like a commuter over pants. Does anyone have a favorite or recommendation?

 

I just saw a thread about a "Speed and Strength" jacket from streetbikegear.com (I think thats the site). It was like $130 for the leather one. Still on closeout. I can't remember the thread it was under but I will try to find it.

I've got a textile for the really hot weather but my first choice is my Wilson euro-cut
leather jacket. I've got about 80,000 miles on it, had it re-zippered, twice but it's my
second skin. The point is, yeah, leather is a premium but that $250 in 80's dollars is
still paying off. It has a few battle-scars but I've never had to patch it...yet.

After I spring for a new helmet, that's where I'm going. A modern leather w/armor.

SS...but They don't have anything that match my bike?? LOL.....Jk... They out of my size....well, I went with the Icon Overlord leather jacket 2010 serie. It's black with grey sleeves/logo, they'll go with any color bike...too good of a deal to pass up...cheapest I found on eBay was $350, I'm getting it for $230 shipped... Hope it arrive as describe w/o defects...hate the risk though..
