I asked the same question at Cycle Gear before I bought my Frank Thomas SP Tech Boots. I was comparing them to the Alpinestars SMX which were $130 more expensive. The sales guy told me there wasn't much difference other than the name. That being said I bought the FT and wore them everytime I rode for around 7k miles before the side part broke. I took them back to complain and they gave me a brand new pair for free and said FT stands behind their equipment. Needless to say I like my boots, especially when they were on sale for $150 at CylceGear.

frank thomas is cycle gear's brand. i have a frank thomas suit and some xti gloves. the suit held up pretty good after a 60 mph lowside. its not the best stuff but definately is good for the price.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I tried on both pairs of boots for about an hour. I kept switching back and forth and walking around the store. I couldn't really tell much of a difference. I'm not saying FT is better than Alpinestars but to justify spending another $130 I didn't see it.

know of several ppl that has FT and even crashed tested em with great results. One was even a guy that had a get off while doin a 100+mph wheelie n loosing it. His gear save his *** and he only had some bruising and a dislocated shoulder. Believe his FT leathers were even usable afterwards too. Well his helmet was toast as was the bike lol.

Yep the FT gear holds up alot better than a t-shirt, jeans and flip flops....Buddy of mine layed his over and the FT gear just had a few scuffs on it after it was all said and done. Bike on the other hand was fuxed.....=-)

When I first started riding I would wear sneakers or some sort of hiking type boot (I know not so smart). But after a slow speed fall over in a parking lot and messing up my ankle pretty good I decided to get some actual riding boots once I was able to ride again. I could not afford the "name" brand boots at the time so a trip to my local cycle gear hooked me up with a pair of the frank thomas boots for a great price. Granted they do not have all the high end features of the pricier boots, but I feel they are good fitting well made boots that will provide a huge improvement in safety to my feet and ankles should I ever have another accident.
