Review CBR 125R 2009
 

Hello all i bought 3 weeks ago a brand new 2009 cbr 125r. Been riding for 36 years now this is my 19th motorcycle. Writing this to let people know what I think of this bike.
After a week I changed the front sprocket from 15 to 14 tooth. Much improved sustain speed at 90, 95 and 100 km. The old sprocket I could reach 125 km but that was straight level no head wind. I can honestly say this is not a freeway bike. It will cruze at 90 - 100 km without too much problem providing there is not 20+ km head wind. The bike handles very well in corners, starts great runs very very smooth. With the change in sprocket i find acceleration acceptable for what it is. Pretty comfortable
for short rides of under 2 hours. Averaging 100 to 107 mpg. This is a top commuter bike the gas savings is awesome. Not recommended for Highways, freeways where you must maintain minimum 100km. Just so you all know im 5.8 feet tall weight is 175pds. Its fun to ride this bike on the back roads 80km or less, handles very well, light probably the best starter bike I've seen. Highly recomend for newriders. Anybody doing a lot of long hauls or long cruzes this would be a tad small recomend next size up.
long and short great starter bike for all and a fantastic commuter bike to save gas as long as you travel for the most part under 100km. Well what more can I say, oh yeah the price of the bike and the insurance is very very affordable as well. That its I hope this helps somebody down the road. Pierre out...............

A couple of weeks ago I bought a "like new" black 2007 of this bike. I can agree with all your comments.

I've been riding streetbikes since 1992, and for city traffic or curvy backroads this light little bike is ideal. I've taken it out on the freeway for a few brief stretches. The CBR125 accelerates up to maybe 90 KPH fine, but at that point it really starts to run out of steam. If you peg the throttle on a stretch of open highway you will eventually crawl up to about 110 KPH or so.

I think I am okay with riding this bike anywhere on Vancouver Island, but I would not want to take it on the Trans-Canada in the Vancouver lower mainland during rush hour.

Mileage is very good - I am averaging about 95 MPG. And I have to say I love finally having a motorcycle with fuel injection: no farting around with a choke lever or blipping the throttle on a cold morning, just wait for the PGM-FI light to go off and thumb the starter button for a second.

Just out of curiosity, what does one of these little bikes cost?

I've got a CBR600F4i, but some days a smaller bike like this would be fun to flick around.

The Msrp on a new 2011 model is $3499, about $1000 less than a CBR250r. You can buy one used iin great shape for about $2000. I bought mine for $1800 with only 1800 Km on the odometer.

Well I got mine new but 2 years old and got it for 2599 plus freith and crap. With plates and taxes and all just under the 4 k. Just for all you readers I went and sat on a cbr 250r 2011 and did not like the feel of it. And for all the post I read they say the back brake is crap. I don't like the instrument panel either. thanks for the reply.

Oh ya forgot to mention you may want to change your front sprocket i did and it made a big difference. I can maintain 100km as long as the head wind is below 20km. Prior to changing i could get to 100 but it would slow down at any little incline not so with the change in sprocket it raises the rpm about 5 thou just in the lower power band so it maintains much better. Top speed with the 14 from 15 tooth front sprocket is on a good day 120km but 110km is more the norm. thought you should know. thanks later dudes / dudettes....lol

Does anyone know where I can buy a 14 tooth front sprocket for my '09 CBR 125r? I'm in B.C. Canada.

Well hello listen I purchased one at local dealer but to tell the truth I went back to the original its actually better. The 14 is good during break in but once thats done put the 15 back on, lower rpms and its easier on the bike. I can maintain 115km and laying down on tank I can get 125km. With the 14 could only manage about 110 on a good day...lol..

Again for about 20 bucks its a cheap way to experiment. It all depends on your weight and height too especially on the small bikes. Well I've got 2600km on mine now and I love it. Great fuel economy and sporty enough to do ramps a tad under powered for 100 series highways but do-able for short runs. I wish I had about 5 more hp. I'm looking into a big bore kit and other options. I will post what I find here. Enjoy and let me know what you end up doing.

I think the 14 will be good for me because I'm over 200 pounds without gear, I can't get her to redline in top gear. I live in the mountains, and I don't travel on my bike, so 100kph is plenty. My bike is ideal for my application, mostly riding to the golf course or beer store with the occasional cruise on the quiet mountain roads around here.
This is NOT advice, I picked up a few horse when I took off my muffler and threw it in the woods. It sounds like a bike now! Yes they do hate me at the golf course now though!

I also took off the back pegs and handle, saved some weight there, every pound counts on a 125.
