Default Can only find neutral when kick stand is down

Hi, i was after some advice and help. My cbr is struggling to find neutral when in gear, clutch pulled in and kick stand is up . When the kick stand is down, clutch pulled in, it pops in and out of neutral with no problem. Any thoughts?

Thank you for your time in advance.

Which year & model bike do you have?

Does it still run when you put kickstand down?

Clutch may be dragging. Adjust clutch-cable so it's tighter. Will pull on clutch more and separate plates more do it doesn't drag.

Hi, apologies, its a 2017 CBR125.

If the bike is running, in gear and the clutch is pulled in and i put the kick stand down, the bike shuts off. With the bike off i can find neutral with no problem everytime.

Thank you for your advise, i will try adjusting the clutch cable so that it is tighter.

Yes, this certainly sounds like clutch is dragging. Where is release/grab point on clutch-travel? Currently it may be closer than 50% to bar? Want to adjust cable so it's roughly at 50%.

Another procedure that helps is to press down multiple times to go into 1st, then lift up 1/2-way for neutral. Seems to be easier than trying to find neutral from 2nd..

Kawasaki has useful "positive neutral finder" where gearbox does not go into 2nd-gear unless transmission and rear-wheel is spinning. So lifting up from 1st-gear at stop will always and only go into neutral. Many people thought gearbox was broken because it refuses to go into 2nd gear when stopped. Some have even taken apart gearbox to fix this problem and found positive neutral finder feature.

Some hilarious quotes:

"Should I disassemble it [engine]... Sigh...
For that reason, I took it out and brought it to the living room."
"The living room became a mess, so I moved to another place."

Haha thanks for the video...it gave me anxiety watching him 😂

I adjusted the clutch cable at both ends but no improvements.

I am going to take a look at the clutch plates for burns or warping and take it from there.

Thanks for your advice 👍

Did adjusting cable change engagement point on lever travel?

Yes, look at metal clutch-plates. If they were overheated, might have some warpage that will cause drag.

Good luck!
