Default xr650l

my brother just bought my girlfriends dads old '93 xr650l

i put a new top end gasket set and heavy duty clutch in it for him
it wasn't getting any fire, so i tested everything and he needed a new ignition control module and a few connections were in need of some tlc

otherwise it seems like a solid bike, here's some pics let me know what you guys think of it

this one was basically stolen, my brother bought it for $700 not running and then about $200 later it runs perfectly

another couple hundred for tires, tubes, battery, etc and it's ready to be inspected and registered

if you want a dual sport for yourself, i wouldn't recommend this one unless you're tall (ie 6' or better) i'm 5' 10 and it's all i can do to hold it up with one foot
the seat height is 37"

i owe him a little money, so at the end of the month i'm buying him an exhaust for it, if we can find a decent priced one with a spark arrestor

The 650L was my first choice when I bought a dual sport, but I couldn't seem to find a reasonably priced late model one. I got a new KLR650 instead.
And you're right about the seat height on these.... same with the KLR. I'm over 6' and can barely flat foot it. I've seen some much shorter people riding them, tho.... I'd just rather be able to have both feet on the ground.
Your project is coming along nicely, by the way. Looks good, and a heck of a deal.

he said that last night he was checking around ebay and found a 1" lowing link for about $40 shipped, it does have a few days left though. if it stays reasonably cheap she'll be a little easier to handle

the only drawback to the kawi is that it's got a lot of plastic up front, not that it looks bad but if you hit some serious trails you'll probably lay it over and tear it up

Oh yeah, if you get an '08+ KLR, get crash bars and real hand guards!!...LOL

The plastics help on the road with wind, though. Looks like you need some real handguards, too. I have the barkbuster storms, and they're cheap enough that they're well worth it.

yeah we do need to do something with the hand guards, not sure what we'll end up going with yet though. probably whatever is the cheapest

it will definately be great to have it registered, loading it in the back of the truck is getting really old lol
