For me it was the GPZ line from Kawi.I had the GPZ750 Turbo (1984) and it had the lower fairings on it that the other GPZ's didn't have.

I'm 6 foot 1 and it did a number on me but it was FAST for it's time (1984) but handled pretty crappy.

1994 Ducati 748...pretty much set the standard for beauty and at 15 years old it still looks the part of a modern day superbike.

The Katana certainly looked cool at the time, but I don't know how much it was functionally different than the GS1000's that predated it. There's only one bike that literally changed the world (the motorcycle world, that is), and that's the 1969 Honda CB750K. Until its release, the Japanese manufacturers were all making small entry level bikes- and all but Honda's were exclusively 2 strokes. Harley's attitude in the 60's was essentially that "we welcome the Japanese brands, since their riders will eventually grow up and buy Harleys". The 750K was Honda's way of saying that they had another idea. The 750K was the first of the Japanese inline fours (followed by Kawasaki in '73 with the Z1, Suzuki in '76 with the GS750, and Yamaha in '78 with the XS1100) with an overhead cam and, I believe, the first disc brake fitted to a motorcycle. It was more powerful, smoother, and more reliable than anything else in its time, and served as a platform for both cafe racers to flat out touring bikes and everything in between. It started the process that put all of the British manufacturers out of business and almost did the same to Harley. The basic design, overhead cam driven, transverse mounted inline four, not only survives but dominates the market even untill today (ok, with an extra cam and liquid cooling thrown in). As far as the motorcycle that changed the world, nothing else even comes close.
