250cc motorcycles?
#3
The ninja 250 is by far the sportiest and most bang for the buck in the 250 class. Do not confuse it with any of the single cylinder bikes or twins that really are quite anemic. At reasonable speeds the 250 is a great bike - I had a lot of fun with mine and more recently with a friends that I helped rebuild.
I assume you are in the States? Best places to look are online (craig's list) and the local papers. You should be able to get a relatively solid bike from $1000-2300 - and they tend to hold that value so you could in a year or two sell it for nearly as much.
Other big perks are the fuel economy, cheap tires, and cheap insurance.
I'll also give a plug for ninja250.org - the FAQ there is fantastic and the group is really knowledgeable about the bike. Some folks there have raced them, others have done massive rides with them, others mod them for commuting... and many are just getting into riding.
