Default Wife fell down embankment

Some buds and I are going for a ride tomorrow, and they asked if my wife wanted to come along. She hasn't been out for a little while due to the up and down weather, so I decided to take her out today, so she couldcheck outthe roads we're going on tomorrow. We were on our way home, and I was infront. After a stop, I turned left, continuedahead, and checked my mirrors about a 1/4mile up the road, and realized she wasn't behind me. I figured she got stuck waiting for traffic so I pulled over to wait. I waited long enough to start to feel very uncomfortable when a car pulled up and saida rider went down a hill and needed help. Absolute dread panic! I flew back and looked around not seeing anything. I went further past the place we had stopped andturned around. Some people were pointingback the other direction were I found Athena down at the bottom of a embankment about 12-15 feet.Another man had pulled over and was down there with her. She told me she was okay, but her wrist really hurt (probably sprained). She has a little 250cc and he and I were able to drag it up, an little at a time to the top of the hill. Apparently she tried to pull out too early, and she got spooked when oncoming traffic didn't seem to be slowing down at all. She took the turn wide, ended up on the gravel shoulder, and the ground gave out and she basically slid down the side of the hill. Could have been much worse. After it sat for a bit, it started, and she was able to ride it home. There was a bunch of dirt and a rock in the front brake caliper, and the center stand got jacked up, and looked like it would catch the chain, so I took it off. The right side is good and scraped up, but other that that, I think it is okay. I don't think I want her to ever ride again!!! Scary day...

Oh man! I can't imagine how you must have felt on your way back to find her! I hope she's ok.

I tell her to get in front everytime we ride, but she says she doesn't know where we are going. I made her get infront of me on the way home, so if there was a problem, I could react immediately. When we got home, I told her she has to ride in front from now on...not like we are going to get so lost we have to get all "Donner Party". I'm trying to teach her until the MSF class, but I feel like a total failure. I'm just glad she wasn't really hurt. Thanks guys.

Sorry to hear that. Good to hear that she is OK. I hear ya on letting her ride again. I would be thinking exactly the same thing if my wife went down. I tend to overreact on things like that tho....

Glad she's ok. She should probably go get x-rays too, just in case.

Here's a new game plan; Take her to a favorite road in your area, an easy slower road, and have her ride it so many times that it's not even funny. Back and forth repeatedly. This will gain familiarity with cornering etc and give a big boost to confidence. That is if she still wants to keep riding.

Oh man that blows. The same kind of thing happened to me when I first started riding and it made me more cautious and a better rider, hopefully it will do the same for her and she can make it a learning experience

Make sure she is looking thru her turns, I learned in my MSF class this weekend that that is important, when she got spooked from the oncoming traffic she might have been paying more attention to traffic than her turn, that would almost definetly make her overshoot her turn.

Damn! I can't imagine what went through your head! I'm sorry bro, glad she's ok though! I always make my wife ride infront of me in traffic!, once we get on our back roads, I'll pull ahead and do the wait for her to catch up thing. We also start each ride with about 30 min to and hour of practising in a parking lot, sometimes we never even make it out on the road, having to much fun in the parking lot! She's really into the practice though..... on nice days, as soon as I come home she is begging to go to the parkinglot. well, befor we found out she was prego that is..... Good luck to ya'll and glad everybody is ok!
