Well, I have tried to answer this one with a video I made,

it is a little abstract but basically it's an escape from madness...

YouTube

So, why do you guys ride?

Transport? Leisure? Necessity? ... a combination??

OR something much, much deeper........

Why do I ride? What an interesting question. Simple, but complex at the same time. I love it! Anyway, it is definitely a variety of reasons. First of all, I do ride to commute and save money. But I guess I could get some sort of gas sipping cage if that was the only reason.

Let me look at it this way…when I ride, I seem to escape from many things. Maybe it is the way I ride too. I seem to balance the aggressive pace with trying to not get pulled over. Twisties make me go faster. Do you guys even remember when you had to slow down for curves? I try to make it so that my pace requires a lot of mental attention to what I am doing. That seems to wipe my mind clean for a while. Not letting me focus on all the BS that has built up in my life. This is especially true on the track. It is cool to see someone start the day out stern and focused on the task at hand. Then spend 20 minutes on the track and when they pull off their helmet, I swear to you they look 10 years younger. There is that youthful exuberance that returns to their face as the stress of whatever crap in their lives is cleaned out…even if it is just for a little while.

Also, when I am out there on the day to day, droning down the highway, I never use an iPod or anything, I like to take in the scenery and the glimpses of natures presence that you just lose when you are all caged up. So I guess that sums it up for me. Well except that it is FUN!!!

Because women always wanted rides! but that has went to the way side because of the new engagement. Now it is for gas economy and I love doing it.

When I first read the title of this thread I started trying to think of how to distill my answer down to something less than a small novel. After watching the video I realized that anything I said would only serve to portray me as an illiterate clod in comparison. That was absolutely awesome and I feel richer for having seen it.

for the same reason a dog sticks its head out the car window. haha

my rr is my only mode of transportation since i blew up my engine in my civic. but on the weekends its something about the freedom and ability to just be able to take off on a saturday morning with only ur wallet and gear and go wherever the front wheel takes you. find a place to camp out for the night some several gas tanks away from home. and head on home sunday afternoon.
