"Wholly crap, that could have REALLY sucked!" moments?
Dang, you got cursed.
Hit a deer this morning. He ran across the road and stopped in my lane. I was doing about 85mph, but managed to avoid hitting him square and only catching his rear. Didn't go down, but now I have some fairing repairs to do. It could have been tragic if I hadn't reacted like I did or was an inch or two more to the right. If I was in the car, there would have been nowhere to go. The only reason I'm on the bike today is because some woman rear ended me last night. She would have killed me if I rode yesterday...

Mrs SB 2.0 and I got hit from behind in my solid old Ford wagon a little earlier in the year. We were stopped and turning left with the indicator on, the guy behind waited for the car to go past that we were waiting for and then - in his big Jeep thingy - didn't see we had yet to move and accelerated into the rear of our car! All fixed now but is was only a few dollars off being written off.
Then there was a trip back from Brisbane on a Suzuki DR Big DR750 about 10 years back. Coming into Cobar in the outback at about 8pm A fog had descended and I'd slowed to 80km/h. Kangaroos were thick on the ground and hopping across the road at very regular intervals - always from right to left. About 15km from Cobar one came out from the left in the thick fog. I didn't have time to brake and it collected the left handlebar with a big bang, pinching my fingers with the clutch lever, and then ripping my foot off the peg. The big Suzuki wobbled greatly but I didn't fall and thinking how lucky I was collected my thoughts and then did a pannier 'feel' check about 1km further on. It had ripped the left hand pannier off as well. So back I went and spent the next 1/2 searching for the pannier on the side of the road. Found it, and with plenty of cable ties reattached it and made it into Cobar for a good night's sleep. Next day in the light had a good look at the bike and lots of 'roo fur jammed in various parts of the left hand side of the bike, but no serious damage.
Cheers, SB
Great stories, I enjoyed reading them all, thanks for sharing here. I think everyone has some fun stories in his experience. The main thing for it to have a happy and safe ending. Mine was not so safe but in general, it was ok. But now I prefer to drive a car. I am in Nevada and use providers for area code 702. I am fond of skillful bike drivers. Always watch shows in my state.

My bike was laid down by a buddy of mine. He paid to get everything replaced, but I went with a different rearset (had vortex, got some off brand thats black since the vortex is $400+) finally got around to putting everything thru, test rode the bike thru my neighborhood and all seemed good. Next day im determined to ride to work, so i get up the road and realize I INSTALLED THE SHIFTER PIECE BACKWARDS AND IT WAS IN MOTOGP. I rip it out of my neighborhood, 60 in what i thought was 1st (really was 2nd) and shift (downshift) and the back wheel went crazy. Pulled over and figured out what the issue was. After work, i remembered so i went straight home. Turning into my neighborhood, the bike did not want to shift. I pull into my driveway and THE BOLT FELL OUT!!! had to ride thru my neighborhood in 4th gear. Lucky she didnt stall on me.
Moral of the story, test your bike thoroughly before you take it further than a block or so away. AND USE LOC TITE!!!
