what the heck is a VFR-800?
I saw one of these today, it was a VFR-800 interceptor, it looked legit as hell.
first thing i noticed was the linked braking system. what kind of power do these things make, it looked kinda big compared to my 600F3, are they heavy? what is the deal with this thing, like what did it compete against? when honda had the F4i, the VTR1000, and the RR series what market did this sell too? the body work looked amazing. |
RE: what the heck is a VFR-800?
Its been out since 1987, it also known as the Interceptor. Its a 800cc motor withV-Tec system. Some of the units have ABS, some don't. Its a touring bike. I is kind of a smaller version of the ST1300

RE: what the heck is a VFR-800?
VFR-800 Interceptor is a sport touring bike. It's an 800cc V-4 DOHC with VTEC. Not sure of the specifics like HP numbers... I know they're not as fast as the SS bikes but they'll most definitely move right along just fine. Dry weight is 470 lbs so they're a lil on the chunky side. The ergos are much more relaxed though, being that it's a sport touring. I've got a couple buddies that have them and they love 'em!! Single sided swingarm is badass! Can get them with ABS too

I think they are the best looking sport touring bike there is. I can see myself on one years from now.

RE: what the heck is a VFR-800?
it was a white one, it looked really clean. i think he had modded the exhaust because it looked really fancy. i noticed the footpegs for the lady on the back were mounted a lot lower than mine.

'99-'01 start the 800cc V4 engine with gear driven cams. Earlier years are 750cc. The '02 and up are 800cc with vtec, chain cams, and a little bit heavier.
I love my '01 and wouldn't trade it. The sound is sooooooooo sweeeeeeeettttt!!!!!!!!!!! |
RE: what the heck is a VFR-800?
They are a great bike, handle really well with usable power & more than enough mumbo for anyone.
They last guy I knew that rode one was with our bike club, he was in his 70's (god bless his grey head, there hope for us all) and suffered from early stages of Parkinsons desease. Rode it pretty well for his age to. No, thats not him, just posted the pic |
RE: what the heck is a VFR-800?

RE: what the heck is a VFR-800?
I've been seriously considering buying one lately ... if I ever hope to 1/100th the amount of miles Jared does, I have to get another bike, I've tried it on my 954 and my sore ass/back/arms just can't take it so I've been looking at that one as well as the yami FJR. I'll probably still keep the 954 but I'm really leaning towards the new interceptor as it doesn't seem to have many flaws. The FJR doesn't have chain drive and it does have electronic shift but I think I can do w/out those features. If you're looking for touring without giving up all the sport features of the CBR I think VFR may just be the way to go ?!?!

RE: what the heck is a VFR-800?
I went to my shop the other day, and they had just received a '99 VFR800 in trade. It's red and has 15k miles...OTD price is $5000 plus tax. Very sweet bike. I will definitely be getting one when I get too old for a CBR. I just hope they don't discontinue them.
I have heard though from other sportbikers that the V-TEC can scare you if you're used to riding aggressively. Like if you're in the middle of a turn, and you get on it the VTEC kicks in at 7kRPM and gives you a quick boost or something. |
RE: what the heck is a VFR-800?
Excellent bikes for sure! One of the best things Honda has ever made!

I got my '01 with around 21k miles for $4500. The '99 and '00 dont have a cat, also have bigger headers so thats a plus. |
RE: what the heck is a VFR-800?
my buddies got one hes got a 00' the hp is 110 and torque is like high 60 i think its a nice bike you can hear the cams just going to town an the v-tec kicks in about 6-7krpm u can feel them a little bit and you can hear the difference for sure he gets good gas milage too about 50mpg and its nice looking too all yellow with metallic black rims and it a lot more comfy than my 06rr

RE: what the heck is a VFR-800?
I love the Interceptors. I would like to have one someday if I can ever afford two bikes (yeah right). Actually, I almost bought one for my first bike. Had a business aquaintance that had one for sale. Would have been too much bike for me...probably still is. :)

RE: what the heck is a VFR-800?
Honda CFR800F Interceptor.. supposed to be a really mechanically sound bike, with a more sit up position and a taller suspension i believe. they have an article in the August(current) Motorcyclist on page 106;)

RE: what the heck is a VFR-800?
My dad use to have a 1986 vfr 750 in the blue, white, and red color scheme until he traded it for his new 1krr. That bike was bulletproof, sounded sweet, and could still run with the new bikes today no prob and the new 800's with the same piant job look even better, definitly a classic.

RE: what the heck is a VFR-800?
If/when I go the sport tourer route, I'm torn between the Interceptor and the Triumph Sprint ST. I prefer the Triumph's looks and sound, but so far I've never been disappointed with Honda.
Or I could just slap some hard bags on my CBR and keep it moving. |
RE: what the heck is a VFR-800?
I almost bought te 800 when I was bike shopping... I'm a stickler for the single sided swing arm
