When my kids were that age they liked playing with a wooden train set that was handed down from their cousin. They could set up the tracks themselves, or get an adult to help. And you can expand the set forever by buying new trains and different kinds of track and accessories. They used it for years before it ended up in a box under my son's bed.

I kid, I kid....not sute what their into now but if it helps ant I have been getting my Little cousin (lives down stairs) Angel figures. Some out of stained glass some from painted porcelin (her name is Angelica but i call her Angel) The first few xmas she didnt pay much attention to them but now that shes going to be 8 She reliazes who the collection in her room is from and this year she asked what kind of angel she is getting...
And for my nephew i do this with the hess trucks...i got the idea because i have received every hess truck Every year since '79 and they are all unopened...and still to this day, i will be expecting my hess truck (with motorcycle) this year under the tree...usually labeled " from Santa"
Now im not saying to buy a bunch of angel figures but maybe something that you think would connect right with her and not get thrown out or given awway when she gets bored with it, and will always look forward to
now i need to go get coffee...
best of luck to you and everyone else shopping this weekend...although its the holidays people are ruthless when sale shopping [:@]
Get her a fiddy!
Seriously though... I really have no idea what kidna stuff girls that age like. I know when I was a kid I loved RC cars and anything I could use to build stuff (legos, k'nex, lincoln logs, erector set, ect). Power wheels were always cool too, but I never had one. I just rode them around at Toys 'R Us and made the employees really mad. They always came over and yelled at us... "you can't ride those around here!!" LOL. But that's just me... girls, I haven't a clue
I know I'm no help [&:] What about some of those computer learning games? Like the little handheld ones and whatnot. I had one when I was a kid that was for spelling and I actually played with it all the time. That thing was sooooooooooo old skool compared to todays stuff though... it was HUGE! LOL

i have 2 girls, one is 18 months and one is 3 years old.....maybe i can help, but how much are you looking to spend? there is this thing my 3 yo wants its a talking macaw "bird" its blue nd yellow and like 14" tall, and acts all real and stuff and learns to copy what you say....its like $55 bucks. walmart/toysrus etc etc.
dvd,s are allways a winner, something like sesame street or veggie tales. my 16 month old little girl and my 3 yr old son love them. their not too anoying and they have a point. def do not get wiggles, barney , telatubbies,or bannanas. their parents will hate you. try not to get anything with batteries because their expensive. nothing loud because they will just take the batteries out of it. my kids never really played with a lot of toys at that age so if you buy a toy it will probably just sit around and collect dust.
