I feel like this is a good opportunity to post my batman underwear picture again (jp and Z and jpan all have it saved to desktop fyi) to prove that not only do I ride motorcycles I also frequent the gym.

with that being said - I think I got the question wrong.

Guys, Regen found the answer. Both methods are taught and used, technically both are right. However, according to the polls, 2 is indeed the more common method used professionally.

Well that makes me feel better of my answer if you think:

48÷2(x+3) = 48(x+3)÷2

and

You think this is a false equation 48÷2(x+3)=2 (This is slightly better written then the original.)

but think this is true 48÷2(9+3)=x

The original equation is written wrong to begin and thats why everyone gets 2 different answers, Its a glass half full question.
48÷2(x+3)=2 is a better written equation then the original question.

If you know any math teachers or someone that does math for a living and show them the 48÷2(x+3)=2 equation and they say its true.
Which means the answer is 2.
Just because you put an x in the statement doesn't mean there is a whole new way to solve the problem and it doesn't change the original question it is used to check your work and the only way to solve the problem is multiplication by juxtaposition to simplify the equation before you could start to solve.

Thats why it is always good to check yur answers and make sure you did the steps correctly.

If it was a fraction to start with then yes you would be right about having to factor the fraction.

You can't use the property half way and call it complete...that like driving from Philly to Cleveland and saying you are in Chicago.
This would be true if the 48÷2 was written as a fraction.

Not sure if this was already mentioned...but you know that you can just copy/paste the equation into google search or the google chrome URL bar and get the answer, correct?

(48 ÷ 2) * (9 + 3) = 288

lol why worry about equations with teh internetz?
