Strange things that happen

Yesterday, I wagged from work and took our cruiser out on our bay instead .
It was a great sunny warm day .. :D ..

Me and the misses were just minding our business idling along (5 knots) about 2 miles off shore when bugger me dead this thing came cruising up behind us about 100mts to our left ...
The misses was having a granny knap in the cabin and I was sipping a cold can, just sitting , driving the boat, staring up front, my mind near blank ...
Then I looked behind and **** ...this bloody sub was cruising up towards us ..!!!!

I near **** myself:eek: I have never seen a sub moving in deep water before ..
Its not the sort of thing I would expect at any time ..
It had no marking on it ..nuthin!! it was a creepy looking thing

It just cruised by like we were not there ..
I took these quick photo's and I was a bit worried about taking photos at all because it might be against the law ??
(and yer I added the text:D sorry couldn't help myself )

anyway ..just thought I would share this weird experience with you guys for a bit of a laugh..:D

all jokes aside .....those subs are creepy looking pieces of work !!
They are quiet too...I could not hear the bloody thing cruising up on us ..

If that really was a Chinese submarine, they were in FLAGRANT violation of Australia's territorial waters, and you could really be sitting on an international incident right there. I mean, Chinese vessels have been harassing American ships for being even 200 miles off of their coastline (in international waters). Up to 12 nautical miles offshore is defined as territorial water for Australia, and a military Chinese sub would be illegally trespassing. There is a provision for "innocent" passage through territorial waters, but frankly, there is no innocent business a Chinese sub could possibly be up to 2 miles off of your coast.

Ive been in a Sub once. It was pretty crazy. They are definitely a weird machine!

CBRclassic 03-20-2009 01:50 PM

Well I found out what Sub it was ..:D
The only one heading into and now in port at Melbourne is the
HMAS Farncomb....yup one of our own :D

chainstretcher 03-20-2009 02:54 PM

Hey, it looked Chinese to me  Of course if you guys are like us ya prolly import all your stuff from China anyways :p

Australia has a navy? I just thought they had Fosters, Rugby, and strange animals lol j/k.

Hangfire 03-21-2009 01:26 AM

Sure they have subs, only problem is the ballast tanks are filled with Fosters, so obviously they are only able to go under water on the first leg of their voyages. On the second leg they've drunk all the beer and the ballast tanks are empty and she's not able to submerge anymore, was why she was on the surface on her way back to port, duuhhh.

In all actuality, as far as I understand it, Australians don't really drink fosters do they Classic? Heard it's considered low grade piss beer over there.

Aweasel 03-21-2009 01:36 AM

I bet that was strange as hell but also...how fukin cool eh?

did a little research on the farncomb...turns out it sunk this thing for target practice

Hey ...we not only have a Navy :D they have us ALL on stand by, to throw our empty Jimmy Black cans at any threatening subs that come too close mate ..:D

Me standing on the for deck of my cruiser threatening the bastards with empties is a sight to worry any bloody enemy navy ...:D:D

user 3037347 03-21-2009 09:54 AM

Hey Classic just be happy it wasn't an American sub, if it was you probably would've gotten hit. Try making that claim to your insurance.

Yup, you are right ...it is funny that a beer so widely advertised as our fav drink is not actually very popular here at all ..

Yet another popular misconception about us lot down under ...
