From personal experience, I would say the majority of individuals whom this has happened to would not or could not seek a medical waiver or hardship status. And most especially with those operating in the Special Ops Community. The level of Integrity and Honor just would not allow it. Regardless of the government's actions. The commitment first is to the unit second to the particular branch in question. And next to the country, and finally to yourself. That is the mindset that you're dealing with, within the Special Ops Community.
I see Tim and myself cut from the same type of cloth and any man who has endured a pipeline system and is operating on a 18X contract is not going to dodge, what has been thrown at him. He will adapt to the situation turn it to his advantage as best as possible and move forward. "De Oppresso Liber"good luck, Quiet Professional. I will pray for your safe return
for those who have never seen it. This is the special forces creed
[align=center]I am an American Special Forces Soldier!
I will do all that my nation requires of me.
I am a volunteer, knowing well the hazards of my profession.
I serve with the memory of those who have gone before me.
I pledge to uphold the honor and integrity of their legacy
in all that I am - in all that I do.
I am a warrior.
I will teach and fight whenever and wherever my nation requires.
I will strive always to excel in every art and artifice of war.
I know that I will be called upon to perform tasks in isolation,
far from familiar faces and voices.
With the help and guidance of my faith,
I will conquer my fears and succeed.
I will keep my mind and body clean, alert and strong.
I will maintain my arms and equipment in
an immaculate state befitting a Special Forces Soldier,
for this is my debt to those who depend upon me.
I will not fail those with whom I serve.
I will not bring shame upon myself or Special Forces.
I will never leave a fallen comrade.
I will never surrender though I am the last.
If I am taken, I pray that I have the strength
to defy my enemy.
I am a member of my Nation's chosen soldiery,
I serve quietly, not seeking recognition or accolades.
My goal is to succeed in my mission - and live to succeed again.

For the most part it's a one-way relationship them on the receiving end. And as always, US service personnel giving anyone who doubts that just pick up a copy of Carlos Hathcock's biography Marine Corp Sniper. It only turns into a loving wife from a bitter mistress. When you reach retirement
Gunny, wasn't Hathcock the Marine who held the distance shot record at around 1350 metres ? I saw some stuff of some Canadian snipers in Afghanistan, which was incredible........almost looked like they were using special rounds, frm the damage inflicted........
Bad luck on the contract extension, they kept me in for an extra 21/2 months in Angola......but, if you think about it, isn't it better to have an experienced man in the field, than a "newbie" who is more likely to make stupid errors (and get others injured)? It still seems unfair, when it's yourself, though.
There'd be a helluva lot less war if we sent the politicians into the field first......

If you get 'stop lossed' does the Government compensate you any better, like a signing bonus or a bump in pay or grade. I would think that that a combat veteran is 'worth' much more than an unknown quantity, plus thay are trained and already outfitted.
I understand that you are forced to do it, but do they try to make it less painfull to our soldiers and their families?
