So I got up early this morning because I needed to go over to Competition Cycle and get my new front tire put on the bike. I forgot what time they open on sat, 8 or 9, and I know how quickly it gets backed up for tires there and that you need to be there before they open or you'll be waiting all day or until the next day. So I get over there about 7:45, nobody is outside the gate waiting (usually there is), but I hang around until a few minutes after 8, nobody shows so I figure OK they open at 9:00, no biggie, I'll go kill some time and come back. So I figured I'd burn a little time and take a ride over to Ft. Laud beach, so I make my way over to US-1 by the airport. Take off from the light at Griffin and this idiot with ZERO gear, on a Busa goes zipping past me. Once we get over 595 and nearing the traffic lights, he slows down to about 40 mph and I go around him. I turn on 17th St and he's somewhere behind me. I stop at a red light, and he pulls up next to me. I flip my visor up, he says hi, I said the same. Then he says "You ride with alot of gear on, don't you get hot?" I almost[sm=smiley36.gif] out loud! So I replied, "A little bit, but sweat is much better than being dead or missing half my skin!". He looks at me kinda weird for a second, then says "yea I guess that is true". And then he proceeds with... "yea I don't wear any cuz it keeps me from riding stupid, so I ride without it and it makes me feel like I'm going faster than I am"

The whole time I'm just thinking to myself.... Ok seriously [sm=WTFsgign.gif] is wrong with this guy? I'm looking at him thinking... I wonder how long before I read about you in the newspaper?? Oh yea, he was riding a black busa with red gym shorts, a white t-shirt, sunglasses, and you guessed it... flip flops! The great Darwin is at work yet again! [sm=badidea.gif]


And on a brighter note.... this new Pilot Power 2CT I got on the front KICKS ***!!

no gear makes him feel like hes going faster? with gear i dont need to feel like im going faster, cuz i know damn well i can if i wanted to ha.

 

i dont either. i can understand the shorts and t-shirt but common atleast cover up your feet .to me feet and your hands and your headare 3 things that you should always cover up.could you imagine what would happen if he went down going fast , how his feet would look (if they were even still there !) haha

 

you know i just started riding really and when i FIRST started, i didn't want to wear my rocket mesh jacket just because i felt wierd getting all bundled up to ride....BUT i always wore good shoes (don't have boots yet) and ALWAYS wore thick jeans....now i read with my jeans, same shoes (still no boots), my jacket, my gloves, my helmet....and you know what, i don't think i would have it any other way...i feel like a more competent rider when i have it on and people take you seriously when you ride as opposed to the squid in shorts and a t-shirt and goggles....

talking to people, those are the ones the cars hate because when you look at them you go WTF?? rather, you see a geared up rider and you go "okay, that guy really rides" I don't know...the more i get into bikes and the more experience i get, the more i want to wear good gear....guys like that are the reason bike accidents are so high....ugh....oh well...

When I was about six, I was riding my bike without any shoes and my foot slipped off the pedal. My foot drug on the pavement and tore a couple nails off and rashed up my foot (of course I was hysterical). I can't imagine doing that at 30, 40, 60+ miles per hour. Absolutely crazy!

 

I rode one time with just shorts. I burnt my leg on the engine cover. That was the last time I rode with shorts.

 

oh yeah same here on the shorts...once i had a few friends over for a party and they wanted me to take out my bike to show em...i was in shorts and i didn't even hit the muffler while i was ON the bike, i wasn't paying attention and just grazed it while standing next to it...i had a helluva blister for a few days...NEVER again.....

 

the funniest thing i have seen someone wear was a tux on a bike haha i thought it looked cool and at the same time soo outa place. i agree though, flip flops=worst thing you could ever wear haha, we call that riding guam style, bcuz over there thats what they all wear when they ride lol.
