I got a ticket to the big show!

I got a phone call from the big boss man in Atlanta, and my company wants to move me up to Atlanta and promote me to a training manager for the company I work for. Big cash bonus and big raise, not to mention I'll be in the biggest, bestest, awesomest store our entire company has (6000 locations!)... conference rooms, training rooms, big huge boss desk, my boss has an office there, and I'll have an assistant... all on the strip in Buckhead (which if you don't know is the freakin nicest part of the nicest part of Atlanta)...

If I take it I have to pack up my things and move there first thing in January!

Any advice for a youngster like me from the older, experienced businessmen?

When you say "BIG" what exactly is the percentage increase over your present salary?
Meaning wll you be making twice as much as you do now? (i.e. 50% increase?)

Is the company paying for your move, and also your housing until you find something permanent?

What wll your workload increases be in relation to your bigger salary?

If you are working 40 hours a week now, and make say, $2,000 a week, but the new position is at 60 hours,
for $2,500, then you have just taken a pay cut, in affect.

Big desks are just decoration, don't be overcharmed by a piece of furniture that costs the company nothing because that expense
will be written off in the form of government based tax breaks on the company's next federal filing.

Training means they expect a certain performance level from new hires trained by you.

Do you also get to hire who will train?

If not, who hires and how competent are they?

(Give a painter good brushes, canvas , and pallete, and you get great art.
Give the same painter a bottle of squirt ketchup and a piece of brown cardboard, and you have clean up on aisle 4.)

Is your pay partially based on this performance level?

Also, the rush to have you decide throws up flags as the company not wanting you to have time to evaluate deeply.

Look, before you leap.

Get everything in writing.

Well I try not to give away too much, but I work at a cell phone company as a store manager (1 of the big 3 providers)

The increase over my current salary is about 10% of my current income which by itself is enough to pay for the new apartment and my move and then have enough left over.

The company also threw me a lot of cash ($5k lump-I pay the taxes on it... so in essense I get $4k) for relocation so they're paying for everything in that sense, but I have to pay for everything out of the relocation bonus. I also get to keep whatever I don't spend. So if I only use a grand for moving and two grand for rent over five months I get to keep the remaining two grand, no questions asked.

As far as extra hours go it will be substantially less than what I work now. In any given week I work at least 60 hours. This new location will give me an assistant who can do basically all the operational stuff I do, and I get to focus solely on training the new sales reps and managers. Also, since the position requires me to work Monday thru Friday I don't have to schedule myself on weekends or to work past 6 PM on any given day.

As far as me getting to pick who I train, that's a big fat NO. I will be trained as a trainer and every single person who gets hired with the company will go to either my store or one of two others in the state.

The reason I got this job is because I built the highest performing sales team in the state within a year, and I have trained every one of them to work independently to their strengths and weaknesses and have also taught all of them how to work as a team at the same time.

Being in sales, I get a regular salary (which is where the bonus comes from) and I also get a monthly commission bonus that will be dependant on store performance as far as % to quota goes and a couple other things, but we will probably switch to a P and L system in the beginning of next year.

It pretty much sounds like a no brainer to me. The only tough thing would be with your girl. Waiting till she can get there.

I would say go for it. You said that you are young, chances like this dont come up very often in life. Keep your chin up and bear down. You sound like someone who enjoys what you are doing. Being good at something is one thing, but being able to teach others to be good is taking it to another level!!! You are obviously being tested and rewarded for your abilities to perform. Do what you've been doing, and perform to the best of your abilities.

Good luck, with your decision.
