And the s**t keeps rollin...
Well, I just got home from the bar, and I saw my boy Mike that I haven't seen in quite awhile. Mike is a volunteer firefighter, and seemed a little distraught when I saw him tonight. He had good reason to be.
He had just gotten off shift following a call where he pulled the body of a dead 12-year-old girl out of a wrecked car. The kicker? The driver was a drunk 17-year-old guy...who walked away perfectly fine. That, I could not deal with without crushing that mother ****er's skull.
Some of you read my thread entitled "Disillusioned." Those of you who did probably have a good idea of where I'm at when it comes to situations like this. Like they say, when it rains it pours. **** THIS.

Yes, Shoortbus, been there - last year I get a call on a Saturday afternoon to say my younger son's been in a wreck, and can I come - got there and he was still trapped in the car - was hit by an 18 wheeler and it took 1 1/2 hours to cut him out, and I had to stand there and let the rescue team do their job. Again, a drunk truck driver. Nett result was pelvis broken in 7 places, broken L arm and R leg, perforated bowel, and about thirty stitches. He's had 4 operations now, and is walking, but with difficulty. Truck driver didn't have a mark on him. I wanted to kill him, too.....

That's f****d up. I read your "Disillusioned" thread as well. Good thoughts in there. Was she his sister? I don't see why a drunk 17 yr old wouldbe hanging out with12 yr old. He has to live with that the rest of his life.
The problem here is drinking and driving. My next door neighbor that I've known my entire life (and that is the same age as me) just got slammed for a DWI. Her excuse? "Everyone does it, I just got caught." I told her that she was dead wrong, and not to speak with me again until some sense comes to her about how serious her offense was. I still haven't had a phone call from her.
Some people will never learn. Call me a Rat, but if I seen ANYONE jump into the drivers seat after having too many to drink.........I first warn them that I will call the police the second that car is turned on. If they say or do anything else other than get out of the car, I dial 9-1-1 and call in the plates.
I've seen FAR too many people die needlessly from drunk driving (especially around here.......we have the highest DWI's in the country). I had one incident where a mother in a minivan was on her way home. She was broad sided right in front of me, van careened directly towards our vehicle, hit a curb, and flipped down the street. The mother was air lifted with massive head trauma. The drunk driver walked away fine. I almost murdered that mother f**ker right in front of the police to the point where I had to be retained and threated jail time if I refused to walk away.
So yeah, I hear where you are coming from. I couldn't work in fire, police or medic fields. I just wouldn't be able to constrain myself.

I hate that. My best friend died this past december in a car wreck due to icy roads. I don't understand why people drive drunk. Things are bad enough without introducing alcohol to the situation.
I am getting to the point whereI don't really enjoy going out and drinking because I hate leaving my truck somewhere else over night and I don't want to drive while drunk. Too much can happen anymore, and I will lose my job if I get a DUI. It's not worth it.
My high-school sweetheart, three years after we graduated, was then my fiance with a wedding scheduled in about a month, made the mistake of getting in the car with a drunk driver. He tried to beat a train.
I worked in EMS and public safetyall my adult life, too. Hate drunks behind a wheel.
Never quite got over her; never married, either. Happened over 30 years ago.
