rc51 is a torque monster with the Vtwin it's a very fun bike to drive

that being said the 1000RR is faster lighter and all around an upgrade to the RC51 thus why it's discontinued and the 1krr took it's place

the Rc51 also has less HP then almost all 1k cc's because its a Vtwin,

but it's a very fun bike to ride

not to thread jack but what makes the RC51 so fun to ride. all i keep reading is that its not as good/powerful/light yada yada as the 1K RR's....but everyone keeps saying how fun it is to ride. enlighten me, lol. im sure somewhere in the response will be "b/c its a V-twin", but idk why that makes it fun, so a little help?

again, sorry Hayden

v-twin = the same torque in any rpm range, so low or high it will pull

an inline 4's rpm starts around 7 it wont pull near as fast till it hits its "power band"

ok,lets try this,if you know someone with a converted 883 sportster, ask them to let you ride it.grab a handfull of throttle and hang on tight.up to about 60 mph it will pull your arms right out of their sockets if you aren`t carefull.

The v-twins have more torque... 2*500cc cylanders instead of 4*250cc cylanders... or in other words, half as many bangs but twice the volume per revolution. Because you have the bigger bangs you get more torque... but because you have heavier pistons you have an engine that likes to rev less. At some point you stop making more power because it's turning the weight over as fast as it can efficiently. The inline 4 revs out higher, but doesn't make the same torque. That's ok, because hp is revs*torque - so by revving out they get the HP numbers.

Another neat thing about the V-twin is that you get power pulses that they say act as an old school form of traction control - less likely to spin the tire out exiting a corner, and so you can get the power on a bit earlier than the i4 of the same size. Saw that on a tv show about the duc... discovery show... I can't say that myself. It makes sense though.

So the v-twin despite having less hp has got some advantages... but the i4 is now quite a few years newer tech, so the battle is lost, and the i4 is the current king.
