Default RE: A Rant From a Cop

I take responsibility of my actions. When I break the law and get caught I accept the ticket, no problems....I do not call the police unless there is a reason they are needed....I.E.....Punk kids breaking into cars, theft, Burglary, vandalism, etc......That being said I DO give respect to the police....Here is the problem.....The police as of late have been given more and more power, while most civilains don't realize their rights.....Schools these days teach that the government is good and so are cameras that issue "tickets" on main roads......What people don't understand are that these "tickets" are actually CIVIL suits for breaking a law....If I catch my neighbor breaking the law can I demand money or sue him??? What gives Government agencies more rights in CIVIL court than normal people??
I do agree without Government there would be Anarchy.......But the Government is an Evil, PERIOD...A necessary evil to keep the peace.
The Police are there "To Protect And Serve".....What most of you fail to realize about speeding tickets is this...Back in the day there was no such thing as a "speed limit". Back when fuel was crazy expensive, as it is today, the government stepped in and posted a 55 MPH speed limit to conserve fuel...Keep in mind gear ratios in cars back then was quite different, so @70 MPH you where running high rpms and burning lots of fuel.........Nobody ever went 55 back in those days...In fact Truck drivers would get side by side and drive 55 MPH just to back up traffic, just to protest the event.....The truck drivers had a real good point and proved it, but their protestfell into deaf ears.
Something unexpected came of this new "speed limit". The government realized it was a HUGE revenue maker, so after the fuel problem was over the speed limits stayed in place....
Yes, I beleive there should be Police. I beleive they should be there to protect and serve as needed... Hell, They deal with a lot more than I could or would ever want to handle....Excessively speeding, absolutely.. If some dick is doing 140+ down the interstate he/she is endangering everyone.

They should not be there to tell me that I need to wear a helmet or seat belt.. Personally, if the only person it effects is me, then it should be my choice weater I want to kill myself or not.....
The only reason I can see police having the right to enforce seat belts, helmets, etc is because it could potentially cost the state (I.E. taxpayers) more money when the retard breaks his neck and is on medicare....
As far as doing 74 MPH in a 65 zone and getting pulled over, well fine I just got aticket, I won't bitch about it on here... I'll take my ticket and tell the officier to have a nice night... As soon as he leaves you'll se me turn to my wife and tell her I just made the state more money......
Let's turn this around a little bit...If someone gets pulled over for doing 34 in a 25 residential zone...Hell yes, give him/her te ticket...They are endangering people......See where I'm going with this??

i agree with you but your complaints lay more with the law makers then the law enforcers and i think thats what people dont understand. i dont think we should be told to wear seat belts its my life. i also dont believe they should tell me what to eat or do in my own home. but if a police officer catches me speeding he is just doing his job by enforcing the law that some ash hat in the legislater made he might hate doing it just as much as you hate him writing the ticket. but he still must becuase it his job.

CBRider, here in Texas the helmet law states, "Required by law under age 21. Over age 21, riders are not required to wear a helmet with proof of successful completion of rider training or $10,000 of medical insurance covering injuries resulting from a motorcycle accident."

95camaro, You are right....Problem is the Cops mentality used to be "nine your fine, ten your mine"...Now it's "Our supervisors got a foot up our ***, so we need to crack down" or "If you are speeding 5-15 MPH over the speed limit on the interstate we are going to bust your *** because you are breaking the law..We need to enforce every law, for we are the law"...They need to be a little more laid back and realize why/when those laws where made..A little common sense goes a long ways, butI can see how that's probably near impossible with the **** they have to endure on occasion.

rrasco, I agree with that law....It should be 18+ IMO..It keeps you and I from having to pay forpeople's medical billswho areon Medicaid. At the same time it doesn't infringe on our rights....+1 for that law....In our state minimum medical I believe is 15K and insurance is required on any operating vehicle.

EDIT: Removed after reading The politics and CBRforum sticky.

yah well law makers are trying to take discretion out of the hands of officers. they see it as it has to be uniformed across the board this way it makes cops less likely to make a mistake. i dont dissagree with you really i mean a little here and there but for the most part you are right.

In my opinion, it all depends on where you live on how the cops will act toward people. Busy place cops pissed everyday and don't care about people. . . small town. . . crack down on more worthless crap, but also more nice.

I don't post very often I'm no keyboard commando. BUT, I would like to add something on the subject of law-enforcement bashing, and the support for them and the support for our military serving abroad. I fully support. Anyone who steps into Harmsway here or abroad . I have been duty station and have lived in some of the states with the most strict laws but I now find myself residing in a state which has fully earned its bashing or bad name . I'm speaking of the state of Georgia. The Atlanta Metro area Dekalb county has had a death or injury by officer involve shooting every 13 days over the last year.and it now has the FBI looking it to WTF is going on, And if you truly don't believe that law-enforcement harassment is not an equal opportunity employer. I suggest you visit one more county in the metro area, Cobb County. Especially precinct 2. I suggest you take a Friday night ride either on two wheels or four and make more than one trip down the parkway here. Especially towards the end of the month. I have no idea whether a quota really exists or not I will tell you from personal experience, having been stopped, more times that I can count just from being out on the highway around 11 o'clock at night. Now I've never been ticketed, nor have I ever been arrested. And I truly believe if I had not been on active duty. I would have probably been ticketed or jailed.for no reson other then to genrate revenue I HAVE THE UP-MOST RESPECT FOR ANYONE WHO DOES THEIR JOB WELL !! But it isn't police bashing. IF , it's just the truth.

I would liketo paraphrase from a great and wise American.
It Is Better to Have Them Wonder Why You Did Not Speak Then Have Them Wonder Why You Spoke at All
Abraham Lincoln

Great valid points. Essentially not so bright people call your friendfor ridiculous reasons who wastehis time, taxpayers dollars and at timesendangerhis life. Frankly I've never understood the appeal to becoming a policeman. At times very dangerous and so so pay. All of us have had unpleasant times with the police and all of us have run into very kind and helpful police but also officers that abuse their power which makes all police look bad. My ex's brother was a Lt. with the local PD. Great guy, joined to make a difference. Never saw him abuse his power but I did see a couple of his officers act like total asses. One of them game me ticket while I was jogging during lunch with a friend. I'm halfway across when it flashes don't walk, the officer on bike tells me to go back, I looked at him and kept jogging. He comes after me on his bike and gives me an $18ticket for not obeying the flashing don't walk sign. Tell me, what do you think of this officer?

I have a buddy who is a cop. He has a policy.....He says he doesn't give tickets to tax-payers........point is, Is that if he pulls you over for a busted tail-light or rolling through a stop, he really doesn't care about the stop or the light, he wants to know who you are, what you have in the car and where you are going. Many times he'll pull a guy over for something stupid, and all checks out, two car seats in the back of some POS, hes not gonna give a 200$ ticket to some working class dude trying to feed his family. BUT, when folks do really stupid you damn well know better stuff, like ridin a wheelie down main street, hes gonna give you a ticket or worse for being such a dumb-***. If he rolls up on someone stuntin in a lot or practicing stand-ups on a lonely stretch of road, he'll advise you to be safe, and break things up but thats it. Hes after guys in the big picture, drugs, weapons, warrants and so on. Hes a cool guy, and as far as getting busted, well, you play, and sometimes you gotta pay.
