To polish, or not to polish?

I'm taking a vacation this week, and thought about doing something to my bike. Should I polish my rims or not? Who thinks it looks good? Right now the only other thing that's "chrome" on my bike is the mid-pipe and can. I'm not a huge fan of a chromed out bike, but I think a little can look good. So whaddya think? They are black right now... check out my gallery or my avatar if you don't know what my bike looks like.

IMO, I like the painted look better than chrome or polished. My buddy polished just the lips on his rims and they looked good for a while but unless you plan on putting a clear coat over them, you will have to keep up with the polishing or they will become pitted and unsightly. My buddy eventually got tired of the up-keep and had the rims powder-coated.

I personally like our rims black but the polish really makes everything pop out. I went riding the other day with a guy on an R1 who put Chromed rims on his bike and I very much liked the look of it. I can't say if it looks good on all bikes but if it's something you want to do than what other people think shouldn't affect your decision, Your the one that has to pay to get it done ( or do it yourself ) and to live with the look of your bike when it's done. Best of luck.

I'm not really a fan of polished lips/rims/or really anything. IMO, chrome is tacky, but that's just me. I like the painted look better. I would say rim stripes would look the best.

that the first time i have ever heard someone say chrome is tacky LOL. to an extent i guess i agree with you. it has to fit the theme if you polish the rims and dont have any thing elese thats polished or chromed then it will look out of place. if you have a polished muffler bar ends and then a few other things i think a poished lip would be nice but i dont like when people do the whole rim on bikes.

Thanks for all the replies. I've decided to polish my entire bike now, and paint all the plastics with a chrome spray paint.
Haha, not really. Actually, my bike's still in the shop and I'm pretty pissed about it. They've had it since Friday 13th. How long can it take to get the parts in and fix my carb T's???!!!!!! And of course they're closed today and Monday, so it will be at least Tuesday before I can go riding again.
