Default Police Dash Cam's

How good are they, Say the cop is a little ways away from you can they still capture your plate? I'm just wondering I had a cop behind me today I thought for sure he would pull me over but he didn't. Can they read your tags later on the captured film.

-Thanks

Depends on the cruiser. Some of the new cruisers could do it I imagine because there are new technologies that allow cruisers to just drive around and the cameras inside of them can get hundreds of plates every minute and run them through a database on their own...but some cruisers don't even have cameras, and then a lot of them have old outdated ones that aren't very good.

Most PD dash cams are manually turned on and/or are turned on automatically when lights are turned on.
Quality of video would depend on the departments budget. Bigger the budget, the better the equipment

If he was going to get you then , he would have. He's not going to come by tomorrow afternoon and say hey, oh by the way.....

If he was behind you for any period of time , he would have ran your plates right then if he felt he needed to.

The only time they come find you later is if you run off and smoke thier ***.... Then they show up at your house bright and early.

Don't ask me how I know.

Exactly why these things are a joke.

In GA, as well as a lot of states, the red light camera tickets are a civil citation. Meaning they can't be used /reported on your driver's history. Reason being bc they have to prove you we're the person driving which takes more than a picture in court. But there are repercussions for not paying! Lol

To elaborate on this, he is correct. Most of these systems continuously record but only display content that occurred 30 seconds prior to activating the the camera which can be don't manually, by activating the blue lights, or by the microphone on the officer. The cameras systems are pretty good but realistically, he was probably just trying to get to a call and hoped you would just get outta the way or something along those lines.

The tag reader is a separate device on the cruiser and is pretty crazy. i work the the Chief of police in my town and we were checking it out when he got it. you can just drive through a parking lot and the thing will scan every license plate in a radius it can see, you turn the corner and repeat. If anyone has a violation itll pop up on the screen and the cop will sit and wait for you too leave and grab you.

But as stated, unless you run from them, they are not going to go back and review the tape and send you a ticket.
