Question OT Heavily Moderated?

Please don't take offense to this, but isn't this section (and all sections for that matter), very heavily moderated? I've seen quite a few threads locked prematurely IMO. I'm sure it helps cut down on the BS that pops up in 97% of all threads, but isn't that kind of expected on a forum? As long as the attacks don't delve into racial or *highly* offensive personal attacks (in this case a member should contact the mods and explain why it was offensive), shouldn't you be able to express yourself and your opinions?

Mods: I'm not trying to tell you what to do, just wanting some insight....

That makes sense. This is a huge change of pace compared to my other forum. A lot of those people have been around so long that just about anything goes (they've been "hanging" out for around 3 years, and they know which buttons they can and cannot push). It seems like some potentially interesting threads are closed before you can fully understand what the thread was really about...

There was alot a drama this winter and alot of great contributors left. Now there are alot of newbies coming in and not having a real good example of what this site is really about and how we (used to) do things. Hence causing more drama. The mods are trying to keep us alive right now.

We had issues with people turning the Off Topic area into an IM chat room. Then it started spreading to other areas. At one point we had close to 70% of all posts in Off Topic. CBRF is first and foremost a motorcycle forum dedicated to the best bikes in the world. Meeting people with the same interests and forming friendships is icing on the cake. But when the "friends" get kinda cliquish and exclude noobs and ostracize others then the friendly feel kinda wears off.

In regards to the moderation at CBRF I would say in the general forum community we are moderate leaning towards lenient. Compared to other bike forums we are a bit more strict. I belong to a crap load of forums ... some will ban you for posting a picture that hasn't been resized. Another will allow damn near anything (resulting in chaos in my opinon -- no longer frequent that site).

Good insight Chain. I'd noticed that too. That makes a lot of sense - actually, the other forum Ryan & I are on is having that same problem with cliques goofing off and their mod team has responded pretty heavy handed as of late as well.

I generally won't get involved in a thread (which is outside my own interests) unless matters start to get out of hand and personal.
Spam is of course a continual problem, which we all jump on asap.

Its all a matter of maintaining balance - and fairness.

I'd be happy to hear from anyone who has a problem with changes I make to posts or other issues. Send me a PM
