The oldest rider you have met
I just got back from swapping out a vanity basin for a new client of mine , only 3 streets away from where I live.
This old guy just looked like any old guy... nice house nice garden just a normal looking place..
I asked him how old he was and he replies turning 80 next week!!!!
anyway...
We got talking while I was swapping his basin over and he started telling me that he would not be home tomorrow or for the next few days for me to do the other work I need to do ..
He then starts telling me how he is leaving early tomorrow for a few days away ..
I ask him where he goes and bugger me dead , he begins to tell me that he is RIDING up into the mountains 6 hrs out of Melbourne to do some sight seeing and get some miles on his NEW bike??
Yup...this 80 year old just bought what is his EIGHTH road bike.... a brand new 400 cb honda..
Turns out this guy is a Honda nutter he just traded his 900 Hornet because it was getting to heavy for him ....
He rides every day if the weather is clear ....thats right every day and every month goes on at least a 3 day mini tour by himself ... he will not ride long distances with groups he said ..
The only riding he does apparently with another bike, is with a girl he knows that is an ex student of his from way back and then they only go out when they go grab a coffee after a 30 min toodle up the coast... all the rest of his ridding his solo .. he leaves his misses behind as she is past it as he puts it..
I thought that I was an enthusihast old timer ...????
This old guy puts me to shame
This 80yr old let me take a pic of his new( 10 days old ) light weight ride .
.his pride and joy he called it ..
I am going to ask him for his pic with the bike in all his gear next week when I go back .

RE: The oldest rider you have met
Yeah its good to see, hope for us all. my riding club have a few old(er) farts, some in their 70's, ones I have met, one guy traded in his Beemer for a VFR800 & had the tank air brushed with a rather (sexist cough, cough) Young lady in scanty attire motif.
I like it when they come along on rides, gives me someone to round up on the esses.

My old mate Des is 75-ish and has three Goldwings - he rides every day and has over 1 MILLION kilo's on one of the Wings !! (It's had 78 back tyres and 40 fronts, and only 3 engine rebuilds.)
Goes to all the rallies, carries his wife as pillion, and his dog, Boswell, on the tank......
Is Kewl only 40 ?
Looks much older !

I sometimes ride with a guy in his early 70's. He rides a BMW...not sure which one but I know he get's his knee down on the streets. Pretty impressive. I saw another older guy getting off a Goldwing earlier this year. Don't know his age but it was probably late 70's. He slowly got off the bike...but his leg was still caught on the seat. So he grabs his pant's leg and pulls his leg down to the ground...looking like he does this all the time. I didn't know if I should admire him or be scared he's on the streets!
