Odd side effect from riding
Its funny how two unrelated things can impact each other.
A while ago someone started a thread about "guilty pleasures" , Mine would have to be video games.
Pushing 50 years old and still playing the latest games seems to be looked down on , guess it makes me immature or something lol
Anyway I popped in need for speed the other day and after playing for a bit I had to chuckle. Ive always loved race games , but was never awesome at them , who cares they're for fun right?
I always had a big problem with........ Target Fixation ,
I'd come around a corner face to face with a car, and start wiggling the stick left and right like a mad man trying to decide which way to go. Usually ending up just staying where I was and smashing into the car coming at me.
Now after being back on the bike for a few years I look PAST the car im about to hit, and gently guide my vehicle around the imminent race ending collision and carry on. (more often anyway )
Hasn't helped me with the MotoGP games though , I still suck at them lol
Anyone here played those games?

I suck at those games too. Just can't get used to driving with a stick as a steering wheel.

Ya man, wheel is the only way to go. Love it for the car games. The H pattern shifter just adds so much to it (for the 3 or 4 games out there that support it fully) .
But as for the Ride and Ride 2, or the moto gp games. even the wheel just doesn't seem right when your running a bike around the track. Seems a little sacrileges lol

I'm in my mid 30's, and grew up with the Gran Turismo franchise. However, I only ever had the DualShock controllers. Several years ago I got a force feedback wheel with a used Xbox 360 I bought, and it came with Forza (4 i think it was). That's literally the only game I've played with a wheel, and while it was fun, I was so much better at GT with joysticks. I got MotoGP 14 right after I bought my street bike. I was so used to GT racing, especially on the world circuits that MotoGP also uses, that I really never had too much fun with the game. I always found myself wanting to set lap times that were just not possible on a bike, and I'd eventually pop GT 5 or 6 back in.
I remember suffering from target fixation back when NFS Hot Pursuit 2 came out. More often than not I'd slam head on into an oncoming car at 200 mph. It's interesting how games and reality can share similarities. I grew up riding dirt bikes, and I remember my dad always saying look at where you want to go, not at what you want to avoid.

The GT series up to 5 were great.
Always loved the wheel with them though, could never match my times with the controller but was a hell of a lot more fun lol
Its funny how many people I know that picked up the moto games after getting a bike myself included lol
Still haven't seen one that turned out to fully enjoy them though , always end up back to a car racing game lol
Anyone remember what arcades were? , the motorcycle games you sat on the bike to race actually weren't bad compared to today. (mind you nostalgia has a way of making thinks seem much better than they actually were )
