Bought a bike a month ago and went on vac. and didnt get a new title untill today and it cost me 360.00 ....my last one for my ninja 500 was like 90.-- i have a cbr 929 now...any ideas or is it messed up..just seems a lil igh..does the amnt u bought the bike for matter?
Yea that seems high... Everytime I go to the DMV for a bike I tell them it was wrecked and I bought if for a couple hundred bucks so they dont charge me alot.
If I remember correctly mine came out to 75 dollhairs.

Kentucky is the worst state for that, We have to pay half of book no matter what, lets say you buy a pile of parts, well you paid 150 bucks for it but it has a title. When you go to transfer it the lowest amount they will let you say you paid is 750 if book is 1500. They tax you on 750.
then they continue to charge you every year just as if you had bought it and transferred it every year.

In Texas you can tell them you paid $1.00 for it. They will pull out the KBB and go off the blue book value. I assume they caught hold to how people say they bought a $5000 vehicle and said they paid little to nothing.....I bought a car and paid less than KBB value. Of course they charged me what it was worth.....This might be what happened to you.
you might also be hit with late fees and such. In nj you have like 20-30 days to transfer it before you get charged an extra $25 or something. Not much compared to $360 but it adds up. To transfer the title and register my bike cost me 200. I said i paid 500 for it so i only got taxed on that. Then the transfer and registration and late fees added up to $200. In nj you can say whatever you want for what you paid, if they think its too low theyll give you a call and ask about it and ask to have the person who sold it to you come in and say that they actually sold it to you for that cheap or theyll call them. I only know one person who did that with a car that got charged tax for the kbb value anyway. But my friends who race and are always getting new cars/swapping cars always put $100 on the title and never have any problems. The charges and everything for what itll cost should be on your state dmv's website too.
