Default New heart for my baby...

Well,a differentbaby. '01 Ducati Monster 600, I blew the transmission last summer and it has sat since then waiting for a transplant to pop up close to my house for cheap. Happened yesterday, Ducati dealership got a totaled '97 900ss in with less than 5000 miles on the clock, $500 later the engine is mine. YAY! New engine with 40,000 less miles on it and and 300 more cc...plus for those of you who don't know, the SS models had better gearing and some had bigger valves, so a 900cc SS engine is stronger and quicker than a 900cc Monster engine, aww yeaah.

Sorry for the ****ty cameraphone pics.
And, on a related topic, what kinda pink-skirt wearing, inverted-penississy-la-la can't even get 500 miles a year on his bike? Really? 4991 miles in 11 years? I do that in two months. I just don't understand weekend riders.

It'll fit, any 2valve carbed engine will swap back and forth up to 2001. Even uses the same carbs with different jetting. Plus, the flywheel from my 600 will bolt into the 900, and is lighter than the $400 aftermarket lightened flywheels for the 900...my boy parts get throbby with prospect of fast-revving Ducati litermonster...

Weekend riders are ok, don't take offense...but less than 500 miles a year? Come onthat's not a motorcyle, it's garage furniture. You know he had it just to pose at bike nights and say "Yeah, I've got a Ducati".

Wow, that engine looks one of a kind! It's a90deg V-twin right?

I look forward to hearing how much stronger it is than the original with this new life

Nice, 51P - the engine'll fit, question is - will the FRAME handle the extra power.....?
(without too much flex) ??
Leave the 600 badges on it, and knock over a few ST3's and 4's and see the look on their faces

Same frame too. Hooray for modular engineering! And I have already upgraded brakes and suspension in the past...I figure while I've got it blown apart it'll get detailed down to the last nut and bolt, plus a fresh paint scheme. Hunter green frame & swingarm, burgundy & cream tank, fender, and cafe fairing, wheels get cream centers and polished lipsa little play on the Italian flag colors...gonna be schweeet!

So you going to take the engine apart? If that was mine it would be in pieces all over the place. I'd replace all the seals and clean out any sludge.

Don't have to, I bought it from a local Ducati dealer (who I've dealt with for years) who went through it before sale. Gave it the 6000 mile service, new valve shims, belts, plugs, etc...fresh $350 service on a $500 total purchase. Can't beat that with a stick.
