RE: new car equivalent to a bike?
Equivalent? As far as monetary value or otherwise. I could never stop riding. I am guessing you have an overprotective mom or dad that is telling you that they will buy you a car if you stop riding. My parents offered me some expensive cars, but I will never give up my freedom to ride.

RE: new car equivalent to a bike?
There isn't anything in your, mine, or anyone on this board's price range that could match the performance and/or thrill of a 600RR.
Performance wise, you would be in the Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Koenigsegg, McLaren, etc. arena.
Thrill wise, there's nothing. Cars are cars, bikes are bikes. It's difficult to try to find the equivalent of a bike to a car when no car would ever come close to how that bike feels around a corner.
Now, if you really NEED a car, and are looking for something around the 20k price range, might I suggest..........
Scion tC: (about 18,000 well equipped)
Mitsubishi Lancer: (about 19,500 well equipped)
Mazda 3: (about 19,000 well equipped)
Volkswagen Golf: (about 22,000 decently equipped)
I personally almost bought a red Mazda 3 hatch right before I bought my bike. I was about 3 hours away from signing the paperwork, then I saw a red 1000RR pull up while I was waiting for the dealer to run my credit and stuff. I immediately fell in love with it and decided that the bike was cheaper, cheaper to run, cheaper on insurance too. So, I left the car dealer (salesman was a douche anyway), bought my bike the next day, and then bought a beater, 1993 Plymouth Duster that ran perfectly that fulfilled the "needs" of a car, and have my bike as the reliable, daily commuter. One year later, and my plan is still working perfectly for me.

A car is a car is a car... Serves one purpose...to get you from point A to point B with your stuff. If the car is being paid by someone else, then why get rid of the bike? If you are buying the car...buy used. Your money will go further that way.

RE: new car equivalent to a bike?
If a person is in a situation where they can only have one, and circumstances dictate that a car is needed then you'd have to suck it up and drive for awhile until a bike is feasible again.
Life does that sometimes, it isn't permanent. *shrugs* I guess looking beyond the next 20 minutes has its advantages sometimes.

It's not new but you can get a good used one for 9-12K... 0-60 in 5.1 159mph top speed, .99 lateral Gs...
I've never been much of one for new cars... I prefer mine with a little more soul.
Plus it's also got a great butt. I had one for awhile... grinned every single time I was near it. Sold it when I left CA.
