I would ask him if he finds himself riding consistantly at 140+ mph, or if he is often annoyed because going 80+ throught the turns is just not enough. When he responds that he doesn't do either of those, you can then explain he must have plenty ofbike already. One of the resons to upgrade is because you are literally maxing out the bikes capabilities. Try to explain to your friend that he is not using the full potential of his bike and if he works on his riding skills, he will become a better rider than a number of people on the 1000's (present company excluded).

I am almost sad to admit this, I ride with a Squid right down to the Mohawk on his helmet well a reforming one. The young Marine Sergeant is totally responsible in every other aspect. He performs his duties outstandingly, hell even took on more responsibilities then necessary when it came time for the toys for tots drive last year and is a completely accomplished rider, but he wheelies in parking lots. Performs burnouts, and so on and so forth and to my personal knowledge received a letter. Not long ago from a state in which he was duty station in warning him that he was in danger of becoming habitual violator, which would make him a felon at this point I was asked by his mentor to speak to him about it , at that time we were just getting acquainted. But after hearing all the facts from other sources and giving him the opportunity to express himself openly, I could not help myself. I just damn near pitted him on the quarterdeck as if he was fresh off the yellow footprints at P.I.. Sorry, let me put that in layman's terms. I gave him a real *** chewing and offer to do more than physically adjust his uniform in my duty hut (my office) as if he was a brand-new recruit at Parris Island. Anyway, you get the point, he explained, he physically could not discipline himself . When it came to two wheels so at that point. I suggested that he ride with me as often as possible. And when riding in a group we place him directly behind the leader. I have seen him several times, hang his head down and shake it side to side when riding at the speed limit remember a while back when I was leading a group of us on a short day trip him pulling up beside me and pointing with his index finger down a long straightaway of interstate and nodded his head to gesture. Let's open them up! He got a firm No from me, he rolled his eyes, hung his head down and shake it side to side then fell back into the number two position now. He has expressed an open willingness to become involved in a track day, but has yet to even check it out , but has taken his bike to the drag track a few times. At first I thought it was about showing off and being seen. But after befriending him and getting to know him better. I truly don't believe it's about showing off it absolutely just perplexes me. What drives this type of behavior in him and others. When it's not driven by being the show off
