by-the-by, if you're running into format or codec issues playing some files, i've found really good success with the VLC Player

Is MPEG format the most common read by DVD players?

I was able to successfully burn a DVD that worked on my television with no problems. That video, was only 30 minutes long and only required one disk. Now the problem is that unless I want to watch half a movie and then insert another disk i need to find out of my burner is DL compatible, which I asked in another thread.

I overcame one obstacle, and it's on to the next one. Piracy is difficult these days...

How exactly did you burn files to a dvd? I've been trying to do this for a bit with no success.

You could only fit 30 min on a dvd? I thought those were around 4.5gb?

I used AVS Converter. When I burned the first disc that was only around 30 mins, which was probably under 4.5 gigs. In reality, full length movies (for example The Last Airbender) was over 4.5 gb, and I couldn't put it on a normal DVD+R because the max is 4.7gb. So, technically I can't burn DVDs unless I use Dual layer dvds, which have a max storage of around 8.5 gb, but the problem that I face is that I'm not sure if my burner will burn dual layer discs or not. PM me if you want the converter.

I am not a movie buff (in fact have never rented one or even been in a theatre since 1998) - but can't you just go to those RED boxes and get them for $1? Isn't that easier than stealing movies and dealing with all the BS trying to watch them on your TV?

$5 dollar cable from amazon will get you audio and video hook up. We do this for watching shows on hulu. ( Dang Dish does't consider ABC as a local channel). it works really well and is cheap.
