Why not fill the bucket with salt water then so it won't freeze? I would say anti freeze, but with the dog you probably don't want him getting into it and salt water would probably be cheaper anyways.

Doesn't buoyancy increase in salt water? The water trap is supposed to drown them right?
In warmer weather I have had the odd one still swimming when I checked the bucket.

Do those sonic repellers affect the dog?

Yeah, it will increase buoyancy, but they won't be able to escape anyways, so yeah, they may be floating when you find them and may not drown, but you can handle them when you find them, if you don't want to do that then it's not a great method I guess.

I've found out that most of the time mice just end up using poison pellets as building material for there nest, so they're pretty much a joke. I did have really good luck with sticky traps tho. Just put it where I figured they were coming in at and it did the trick. I was catching mice in no time.

I left my back door open last winter and saw 2 of those jerks run inside. My cat caught 2 but i guess they multiplied before that or some other ones got in that i didnt know about and i caught another 2 with glue traps like 2 weeks later. Just put em in the right spots and youll catch them fairly quick. They run along walls and stuff sooo set a few up and see what happens
