Motorcycle Mechanic Schools
Thinking about some motorcycle mechanical schools. Wondering if anyone has been, would love some input. thanks. ( thinking about MMI, Wyotech, ect.)
Buddy of mine was going to go to one of those schools - I think it might be a good idea..but the advise I gave him ---
1. Remember going to school doesn't guarentee you a job, no matter what they tell you when you get information...do you want to spend money for a school that might not get you a leg up?
2. Dig into WHAT they will teach you - and is that something that digging around a garage won't?
3. Call shops, all shops, any shops. Ask what they think of that school. They have no reason to lie to you..and will tell you what they think of their graduates (make sure you dont ask for a job..haha..)
I went to a school (not motorcycle) that failed me...so I wish I had followed those three steps
Good luck!!

I don't think that Motorcycle mechanic school will be good for your future to start with. Its not sure what you will gain there. They will provide you the perfect information and knowledge about it or not.Its totally a risk taking.
i don't see the benefit of it, i have a motorcycle mechanics degree from the local community college and worked on bikes for about a year and i just didn't make any money at it.
the only real way to make money working on bikes is to do it freelance or own a shop

Going to school prolly would be important for landing a dealership job. If you're attempting to go independent, I doubt seriously most people ever consider if the mechanic is credentialed or not.
The things that matter most about independent shops are
1) Honest
2) Reliable
3) Reasonable

All I did was get a job at a shop and worked my way up from there. If you have a pretty good mechanic knowledge base, picking up on motorcycle trends isn't hard. However, a certificate/ associate degree in this field would help in the whole process of not having to be the shop b*tch.
