i just moved away from there a few months back but i lived in like 7 different places in the city and county. what kind of business are you opening? my take on it is if you have the money move out to west county(chesterfield, ballwin, manchester etc). st. louis city isnt bad at all. north and south city, along with east st. louis are not places you want to frequent. north st. louis probably being the worst. south county isnt too bad, some hoosiers around but not too bad. avoid anywhere of 70 unless your moving out to st. charles.

Visited St. Louis a few times, and I would say the best neighborhood to live in is Northeast, like Detriot area would be good.

I live in west St. Louis county and it is really nice. I absolutely would not live within the city limits, especially the north side. There is a 1% income tax for all St. Louis city residents or those who work in the city but live elsewhere. It does not apply to businesses or residences outside the city limits.

I live about 30miles west of STL on hwy 70. O'Fallon. but IMO anything west of 270 is aokay. the farther west you go on 70 the more open it gets. st charles is a pretty busy town and then st. peters isnt as bad and then o'fallon is a decent town. pretty low key. i would definately stay out of STL like others have said. i will go an extra hour out of my way to avoid downtown if at all possible

North COUNTY is okay but stay out of the north CITY unless your commuter vehicle is an Abrams tank. I grew up in Florissant (about 20-something miles north of downtown) and it is still a fairly nice area. I think I already mentioned that I'm now in the west county area, around Wildwood/Chesterfield and I really like it. If I were to move again I would look for someplace on the outside of the perimeter made by the I-270/I-255 loop around St. Louis.

If you'll be working downtown you might even consider something across the river in Illinois (NOT E. St. Louis! - think Abrams tank). Depending on your working hours you'll have to deal with the traffic across the bridges each day.
