Leather motorcycle jacket

Hi all,

Probably a newb question but one I need answered.

I bought a set of leathers second hand that I was told would fit me but they are a little looser than I'd like so I am going to sell them and buy a new jacket online.

My chest size is a 39" and the jacket I'm going for is available in a 38 or 40 inch chest size.

Should I go for the 40 to give myself some room or take the 38 as I have read it will wear in with time?

I've never had a new leather motorcycle jacket so don't know what is the best option.

Apologies if this is a tedious question but I figure you have probably all had a lot of jackets over time so would know.

Id go on the big side. A little extra room is good for undergarments when its cold. Besides, if you go to a gym or do beer and burgers often, you are going to need it to be on the bigger side.

That makes sense, more the burgers and beer than the gym, thanks

Actually, to be on the safe side, a tighter fit is better.
If you do go down and slide, a loose garment can cause ultrasonic burns.

As someone with a grand or so worth of leather that I can't fit in anymore, I'll buy a size larger next time. Best gear in the world won't help if you can't do up the zipper in a few years

I will say for sport riding I prefer the jacket to be a bit snug. I find it helps my posture on longer rides. I wish the pants were a bit roomier, but I guess there's always diet and exercise as a last resort ;)

Thanks for the replies.

I went a size up and I'm glad I did!

It's a pretty snug fit even with the extra inch but from what i have read it will loosen up a little with use.

I've used some leather conditioner on it to help it along and will be wearing it every day.

Thanks for the info as always, this forum has been really helpful.
