Oh yeah haha they are big babies in the cold that's for sure I feel bad for them because they don't want to go for a walk and they just end up running wild throughout the house. Sounds like you got a great wisdom base to train him man. Now all it takes is hard work and consistency to make it work. Def wish you guys the best.

Can't agree with the Cesar opinion. Honestly I think Kai would show him just how stubborn a Shiba Inu can be. Cesar would definitely have to move into animal cruelty to get some results (and then Kai would do whatever he liked when Cesar was gone).

We use more of Victoria Stillwell's methods (It's Me or the Dog), a couple we had to create specifically for him and the "Nothing In Life is Free" mantra training Kai. NILF is pretty simple: Kai wants something, he has to give us something in return. He wants dinner, he has to sit / down quietly until we release him. He makes a sound or breaks his stance, we stop making his meal for example.

As for the wink, I agree with the pain theory. B'sides, Kai doesn't need tricks to slay a lady. When he does break out the tricks, he murders whole sororities (remember where we live: UPenn campus)

Sounds like Kai has been showing kuro who's boss haha. But I think that if your right then the show IS fake and theyr all trained acting dogs. But I honestly think he just fully understands dog behavior and how manipulate it.

I think that is pretty universal basic training. Milan does the dog food thing as well. Most all trainers talk about how important feeding and its surrounding aspects are to training dogs. He lines up his dogs and only feeds the ones that are the calmest. He takes up to two hours to feed a group of dogs. Pretty sure the guy can wait out just about anything.

Like most bully breeds Kane has a pretty stubborn streak as well. We had a 10 minute Lead-walking standoff the other day in the cold. I was not a happy camper.

Stillwell is pretty good too though. I've read some of her stuff as well.

And I don't think the lady would allow me to go walking with Kane if I was at UPenn like you hahah

We could get into a large discussion of Cesar's methods and how effective they truly are. But it's been done a billion times. "Millan" and "flooding"

There hasn't been any struggle for "Alpha" nor Kai trying to "dominate" us. We control the dog food. We won Alpha Roll Kai and Millan might very well see how much he pulls his punches.

Only 10? Went for 30 minutes, with 2 spectacular tantrums, before Kai sat (prolly from exhaustion) the first time we tried. He frustrated the Petsmart trainers on several occasions, down to the point one insisted he'd walk with her rather than be dragged on the floor.

After going 2 aisles we finally got tired of laughing at her mopping the floor with Kai, called him over and said "Let's go"

We use treats to teach a new behavior and for very serious things (Kai ALWAYS gets a big treat when we use our Emergency Recall word). But we quickly wean them out, downgrading the type of treat to simple "Good boy" or ear scratches. But it's not all about food. To get in the dog park he has to sit and hold eye contact before the gate opens. No walking out the door until we release him to do so. Hell we taught him to Bow on command in 10 minutes simply by giving him an old toy when he did it.

It's a matter of figuring out what he wants and demanding something given first. If you believe in the Alpha Theory (and I don't) that teaches who's Alpha far more effectively than corrections. Look at any pack: the Alpha controls everything the pack gets
