Default I'm on the hunt

So, my husband has informed me that he is giving me a $1000 allowance to find myself a bike. I am searching for a CBR (of course) and I would prefer a 600. This is NOT going to be easy. I have already scouted eBay and Craigslist and there was only 1 bike in my price range, and the guy never responded. There are a few Ninjas for that price and even a Katana, but I really want a CBR

I'm going to say good luck in your adventures here. If you're budget is only $1000 its going to be next to impossible to find a bike that is in running and riding condition. Heck I think F1's are going for more than $1000. You also want to be careful because you don't want to buy a bike because it is within your price range only to have it break down on you and leave you stranded or have a part fail and cause you to crash. Personally I would take that $1000 put it in to the highest interest savings account you can find and then keep saving more money until you come across a bike that you think is a great deal and is in perfect mechanical condition then take that money out of savings and buy it. My advise is don't rush into something because you just want a bike. I did that with my F4i and it cost me a lot more money and frustration in the long run. Find what model you want, F1, F2, F3 etc and research the heck out of those bike to find the good and the bad. This way when you find one you like you can ask the seller about the known issues on that model to see if they have been fixed or not.

Thanks for the advice guys. I know it's a long shot, but we got lucky once. We got our Hurricane for $1100 and it runs great.

Tough but possible depending on situations...a friend...chance, put some money aside every week while searching...make small expense budgeting...if your range is $1G, you'll end up spending 1.5G....it aways happens like that...

This is very true.

And to 74Demon, he's been trying to pawn it off on me now as I look at other bikes LOL. The only problem is the Hurricane if WAY too heavy for me. I had to turn it around yesterday to pant it and, since my tippy toes hardly reach the floor, was having the hardest time trying to back it up.

I wouldnt buy a $1000 cbr if I were you. most likely it will cost you an arm and a leg to maintain. try to wait a couple months and save up to around $2500 minimum or more before you buy. Good luck.

Hate to join the crowd, but unless you arrange a mechanical budget to go
with the purchase, you are going to have to be extremely lucky to find
happiness for a grand.

Not saying it ain't possible, though. Do a very close inspection of any candidates, or you'll be buying someone else's problems in that price
range. There'll be a reason the bike is that inexpensive.

You might look over the 500-class for your ride as well. Size does matter,
in your case the class might be a better 'fit'. Other-wise, talk to Yumon,
she's already dealt with the issues you're facing.

Don't limit your options too much at first, check out the whole market. The
big four (kawa, zuki, yama and honda) all make strong contenders. You'll
have more potential choices that way.

Good luck, Ern
